SPG as a Schuetzen lube?

I'm sure the subject has been posted before, but has anyone tried SPG as a schuetzen lube? Did it work well or not? Does it pan lube well? I have an awful lot of it and it would be a lot easier to use that up than to make more Emmerts.

I bet SPG would work just fine.

I use my homemade stuff for everything and have no problem. I'll guess mine is close to SPG.

I use it for everything.
With 2 jobs, one of which has me offshore on a ship 2 weeks a month, 2 kids under 2 yrs old and a house in the country I dont have time to mess about with 20 different lube formulas.

I melt it and soak patches for my front stuffers
I use it for lube cookies in brass shotshells
It really excels as a pan lube for cast bullets

I think the most extreme thing I do with it is a smokeless hunting load for my 45-70
390 gr hollow base 24:1 pan lubed with SPG
51gr H4198
Velocity avg 2100fps
I have not experienced leading with this load

I have seen it fail when the outside Temps. get around a 100 and over with low humidity and leading is the outcome.

I certainly can't comment on that. We don't see those kinds of weather conditions here in the NE. The temperature does get into the 100F range but the humidity is always almost as high.

On the other end of the scale it works fine at -35 but pushing patches through is mighty stiff work.

Spudge works as good as anything else once it's sooped up with lanolin and olive oil.

I have had good luck pan lubing with SPG for both smokeless and and black powder for my two 38-55 rifles. More recently, it has also worked well for me muzzle loaded in a 32-40. I do however emphasize pan lubing, it has not worked well for me when used in a lubrisizer.

There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

SPG works great as a pan lube for smokeless in Schuetzen. Use a double boiler or the oven at low temperature to melt the lube and you will be fine. Do not use the microwave or direct heat. I used SPG for years until I got squirrely and decided to brew my own.

If somebody wants to experiment with lubes go for it, if all you want to do is shoot Schuetzen SPG will take one of the variables . It works as good as anything lets you pay more attention to breaking a good shot.

When you called Steve Garbe at SPG, the guy who invented it, what did he tell you?
