.40-50SS 300gr bullet and 300MP

I had a chance to start working up a load for my new 300gr tapered bullet. Starting load was 19.0gr up to 19.4gr. Velocity averaged around 1240fps for 19gr up to 1330fps for 19.4. Recoil is pleasant after 150 shots compared to my 385 and 400gr bullets. Still have more work to do. Ill be happy when the group sizes get down to about 3/4 moa.

I'll try bumping the powder charge up to 20gr and work up from there next time around. The targets are ten shots at 100yds and representative of three groups for each powder charge.

Looks like one of Tom's molds from Accurate Molds.   He does terrific work.  What block material did you get, brass, aluminum, or iron? Alloy? Is the nose a bore-ride diameter, or smaller than the minor diameter of the bore?  Looks quite promising.

Hi John,

Tom does do nice work. Its a bullet design I described to him. He made a drawing that we made some minor changes to before going with it. The mould is brass and casts great bullets. Its not nose riding. My bore/groove diameter is .401/.408. The bullet alloy is 1-20.

Its a work in progress. I'm hoping to hit pay dirt as I increase the powder charge.

I like the bullet design.  What is the twist for this bullet?

Never mind the mule. Just load the wagon.

The twist on my barrel is 1-16. A little fast for this bullet but it seems to be doing well around 1300fps.
