Husqvarna 20ga bore rifle

I have a Husqvarna rolling block that is 20ga with a factory full oct barrel and fully rifled. This has conventional spiral rifling not the straight rifling found on some of the Husqvarna 1/2 rd /1/2 oct shotguns with 2.5" chambers. The chamber appears to be very short, 1.75" maybe. Any one have one of these & done any loading or can point me in the right direction?

Hello Ken,
What you have there is a Model 4 20 ga RB Husky. I shoot one of these and as you have already observed it takes a short 20 ga brass case (approx. 1.850") with a .662", 1 oz ball (essentially a 16 ga). I trim CBC 20ga brass cases (Magnatech?) to fit and use a load of 65 gr FFG. A .662" ball is a slip fit in this case and is quite accurate to 75 yds (minute of deer!). Currently experimenting with a conical from Accurate molds that is showing real promise.

My rifle was in unfired condition and was fitted with a 3 leaf rear sight (marked 60, 120, 180), a 30 "oct barrel with a 1 in 72" twist (bore .662", groove .622").
Once you find a load that shoots to the sights (mine stated out shooting very high) it makes a great hunting rifle.
Drop me a PM and I can fill you in with some more detail. Enjoy!
Pete

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I gotta find one of those! That's a very cool shotgun, and I love Husqvarna Rolling Blocks! They're so nicely made!

Yeah, I fell in love with it the minute I saw it! Handles nicely and nothing gets up again after being hit with one of those balls! They are slow but they hit with a real "thump". Has twin extractors as well. I don't know if that is a feature on most Husky RB actions but you sure get positive extraction.
Really easy rifle to load for. The hardest thing is trimming the 20 ga. brass cases.

This one also has the twin extractors. & shotgun frame with the notch so the full sized block comes down further.
Have you tried plastic cases with a roll crimp?

No, twin extractors are not the norm for Husqvarna Rolling Blocks. Might be the norm for their shotguns, but my Type 33a doesn't have twin extractors.

The small frame model 33 only has a single extractor.  Duel extractors on the shotguns and bigger rifle frames are not uncommon.  My observations is that maybe close to 50% of the shotguns have them & maybe 10% of the commercial large frame rifles.

I am going to try some Ballistic Products Shuttlecock in mine. Just thought I would try them before buying a mold of some kind.  (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)
