Schoyen & Peterson Powder Measure
Mar 9th, 2015 at 9:30pm
Print Post
I was taking photos of this powder measure for a friend this afternoon and thought I would share.  This is by Schoyen & Peterson, Denver, Colo.  These are not very common.

If anyone has a Schoyen 32 caliber bullet mould or a .32-40 re-decapper that they would like to part with, please let me know.

... Joe

Is that the measure that used to belong to Uncle Charie Mcnett? I had a chance to examin it not long after Charlie bought it It was still in perfect working order.

Broken Arrow. Good question its for duplex loading a small charge of smokless in the small bottle and the main charge of black powder in the large bottle for a clean burning load.

Truly outstanding collection I must say. Thanks for posting the photos.

I just received the latest copy of the Single Shot Journal, and was please to read the article there in about Axel Peterson. Seems he have a very interesting life. A few years ago I happened onto an Axel Peterson rifle. Although it is not one of his fine single shots it never the less sports a fine Peterson barrel so marked when he was in Denver Co. It just happens to be Axel's creation of a tack driving Winchester 52 in 22LR. Had a few that are in the know about Winchester 52's look the rifle over and they tell me that not only the barrel is Peterson's but they believe that the trigger and horn butt plate are also. I have developed a new fondness for this rifle after reading the article. This rifle is truly a pleasure to shoot.

I've heard a number of knowledgeable collectors say they thought every .22 rifle that came out of Schoyen's shop during his partnership with Peterson, most likely had a barrel built by Peterson. .22's seemed to have been one of his areas of expertise.

Hi Tom, nice stuff. What is the barrel length and chamber of the barrel up by the starters?

There is a great article in the current issue of ASSRA magazine on Axel Peterson which includes some information on powder measurers they did.  Well done piece on a great shooter and gunsmith.  Take the time to read the whole article.  (March/April 2015 issue)
