Yep.
United, there's a fighting chance... Divided, you can pretty much kiss it all goodbye.

So I don't have to do it again when I'm 86.

I, from experience of being canadian, do not agree.
We are not allowed to own AR's and most Black Guns are heavily restricted.
But in many ways we enjoy more freedoms than our US brethren. Some even believe we own more long guns per capita (depends on how you manipulate the numbers)
I can certainly buy sell swap or trade without any of the FFL requirements. And I can certainly possess more powder.
Any day of the week I can buy a brick of 22's from 4 stores within 10 minutes drive. I dunno but to me it seems clear.
Your Lobby is arguable the most powerful in the world. I would think as a group it would be pretty easy to say we don't support a certain type of behaviour without losing any of your rights and freedoms. I can remember the NRA saying as a group they did not support putting automatic weapons in the hands of a 9 year old and the world didnt end.

Sean you are mistaken with respect to the AR-15 in Canada. They are available but are classified as restricted, so anyone with an RPAL can buy one. They are not my cup of tea, but I'm with Boats on this one.
Respectfully,
Chris.

I'd like to clear up a few misconceptions regarding gun ownership in Australia as some things I have read on this site are misleading.
Firstly the ''Gun Buyback Scheme" was brought in as a direct result of a gun massacre at Port Arthur in Tasmania by Martin Bryant, Martin shot about 35 people dead in a café there.
He used a semi auto rifle which I believe he stole. As a result of this shooting the govt introduced a buy back scheme whereby you had to hand in any semi automatic firearms and you would be financially compensated by the govt at market value. The only people allowed to have semi auto rifles are professional animal cullers and some others.
No one that I am aware of was asked to hand in their firearms that were not on the prohibited list, or have to re licence them.
It is true that from a licensing standpoint the govt makes no distinction between black powder firearms and those more modern firearms using smokeless.

One legal gun owner should support the other. Just because an AR is not your choice for competitive shooting, hunting, home protection etc. should not mean they and those that own them are the root of all evil. A legal gun owner is a legal gun owner no matter if he owns a black shotgun, hunting rifle or a an AR. To label the owners of AR's the spray and pray crowd is a severe injustice to the majority who use them in a responsible and meaningfull way.

Don't get me wrong gentlemen I have no issues with the ownership of AR's or any Black Weapons. Ya admittedly not my cup of tea but if thats the look your into then good on ya.
Yes my issue is the spray and pray crowd. And yes I can't support that kind of behavior when it means that my buddy Chris or Dave or Bob next door can't get a box of shells to go hunting with.
Or better yet.
WHEN OUR RCMP ARE HAVING DIFFICULTY OBTAINING 9MM to train with. Trust me I have first hand knowledge. Does anyone realize this? Our law enforcement agencies are having as much difficulties as we are in obtaining practice ammunition.
Now how do you feel about Bubba.
Sorry gents you may feel this is strictly an American issue but unfortunately its not. Over the years we have accepted benevolent words and kindly pats on the head with promises of "Don't worry we'll look after you" as our ability to manufacture munitions went south a piece at a time. It wasn't that long ago that the last pieces of domestic cartridge tooling left Valcartier for the southern US to boost PMC's production.
Chris...
Yup your right man

Sean,
With all due respect, I really don't think the use of the 1911 in 45ACP affects your RCMP's ability to obtain 9mm ammo for training purposes, and I don't think the use of the 30-06 affects anyones ability to obtain 7.62/308 ammo, or the use of the 222/222Mag/22-250 affects anyones ability to obtain 5.56 ammo.
Maybe you buddy Chris or Dave or Bob next door should have chosen calibers that wouldn't be impacted by NATO supply requirements, and could then still be able to shoot. But they made their caliber choices and get to live with it.
Finally, if anyones country allows munitions manufacturing to "go south", or any other direction, then I think it's past time that you hold your elected officials accountable for their piss-poor decisions.
No ill will intended, my 2 cents.

I have a long history working and living in Australia. Like the country very much plan to go back again, and was living in Sydney when the firearms laws changed. I can assure you my experience as related was accurate. My firearms license was revoked along with all others in the country and re-issued very limited as dictated by the local police. I had two rifles at the time Rimfire and Centerfire, Silhouette bolt guns. Re-issued license only allowed Rimfire as my local club's range was rimfire only. CF Silhouette I shot as a guest at a club out of state did not belong to a club with a CF range. Took my CF rifle back to the US had I not would have had to turn it in, paid for it yes, still confiscated and destroyed. No appeal. It is up to the local authorities, how many, what kind, how you use it, everything depending on the local Police
But don't take my word for it read the Wiki page on Australian gun laws and see if you want that kind of action and restriction in the USA. Political system is different there, much more power in the hands of the executive. Same thing our president is trying to do here. Actions on his own not consulting with the congress. Exactly what he wants to do with .223 ammunition

All the talk aside my distinct impression having been in Australia as a firearms license holder when it happened is fractured gun owner organizations were not effective in protecting law abiding citizens firearms ownership.
The only protection we have in America is a united front led by the NRA. Like the NRA or not we don't have any other options.
