Stopped by the localy owned big gun shop  yesterday. Shelves full of powder, both Alliant and Hodgon brands, 1 lb and 8 lb jugs.  Some like Unique I have not seen for over a year. Plenty of 4227 in 8 lb jugs too. Most IMR brands of rifle powder avalable.  Rare over the last year was Hodgen Clays, plenty of it too.

They were limiting to 1 x 8 Lb or 2x1 lb. I bought  a 8 pounder of Unique, went back next day to get a 8 pound jug of Red Dot, Shelves starting to thin out some Unique and 4227 left though.

Could it be the shortage is over ? Buying 16 lbs am I now a Hoarder ? Even though I have 4 or 5 1 lb jugs of 4227 may go back and get a 8 pounder. Will be official Hoarder if I do.

There is one tiny problem here

There never really was a shortage. It's just the demand suddenly quadrupled because of mass hysteria caused by one weapon and one cartridge...That silliness led to hoarding and hording led to shortage.

Here in canada there never was a panic, hoarding was limited to a few isolated areas and for the most part we have been able to get any powder or primer throughout the last several years.

And we buy our powder from you fine US folks

Now that Barrack wants to ban certain types of AR Ammo the hysteria will probably start all over.   Am double checking my supply this afternoon.  Stock up while I can.

You have to watch this stuff though can become an obsession.   When we built out house in 1974 wanted to put a very large lamp and post out front.  Lamp was so big I had to make the post.  8x8 Cypress dressed down to about 7x7 tapering from square to octagonal like a pencil.  7 feet above ground 3 under.  After 30 years bottom rotted. Took it down cut the bottom off and scarfed a new bottom on.  Used pine and it lasted 10 years.   Took it down again cut the top off and turned it round, then a new round bottom ending in a Bead with tennon under. Plugged the tennon in a piece of iron pipe, So it’s now metal in the ground up 8 inches or so then wood rest of the way up.  Will last 50 years

Well Im probably going to get a rise from a few people but what the heck. 

Based on everything Ive have seen first hand and heard from friends and the news is serious riflemen, pistol shooters, trap folks and hunters arent causing the problem.

The problem is being caused by Bubba and his constitutional right to get his jollies by spraying a thousand rds downrange on a saturday morning out of his AR. Maybe its just me but I dont see a need for this kind of wasteful, unproductive behaviour and further it interferes with the right of the majority who just want to have reasonable access to enjoy their sport.

Perhaps its time that the sport as a whole (inluding the NRA) identifies where the real problem is and deals with it instead of blindly supporting the rights of those persons who are mucking it up for everybody.

I was working in Australia when their gun laws changed. Had a Australian shooters permit. All the individual clubs I was involved with thought it was not going to happen to them.  Small bore Prone, Collectors and Shotgun shooters were willing to let the AR fans go.

Government came down on all, made no distinction between collectors of nice old single shots and people who favored black guns. Everybody's shooters license was revoked. You had to go back to the local police who made the decision who could own a gun or not with no appeal his word was final. I knew collectors who had to export there whole collection because the local officers said they were too old to own firearms.

Way I got my Anschutz super match 54, police said the small bore club owned too many guns, club gave it to me to take out of the country rather than have it cut up as scrap.

Same thing could happen here if we are divided.   NRA is the only thing between us and confiscation. I don't have any use for the black guns either but we need to stand together.   

Get over all those NRA complaints, all they do is feed the gun ban crowd
