Frank hit the nail on the head. When I joined the sport the wisdom at the time was that the traditional flat point bullet was the most accurate bullet. Everyone was still trying to recreate black powder loads and speeds. Some forward thinkers started to realize that with smokeless powders you could go beyond the limits of black powder tighter twist and more velocity led to trying new shapes of bullets that could not be shot well at black powder speeds. A revolution in thinking went on between the mid 80s and through the 90s. we are seeing the fruits of that thinking in more clean targets than ever thought possible.
