How much would you taper a bullet from nose to base? Thanks for your answer, Hank45

Also depends on the barrel throat of your rifle; the groove-to-groove diameter; and the bore diameter.

Base band should be groove-to-groove diameter or .001 or .002 wider. The middle bands should be groove-to-groove diameter or .001 less than groove-to-groove diameter; and the front bands should be .002 less than groove-to-groove diameter or almost down  to bore diameter.
And the widest diameter of the head should be bore diameter.

However if you have a long wide throat; then you may not get a good gas seal and should not taper the bullet as much.

Tapered bullets slide into the throat farther but you have to make sure they still have a good gas seal and are not tapered too much that they start going down the barrel at an angle.

My experience is limited so you can take it for what it's worth but what has worked very well for me is to put a 1 1/2 degree taper on the bullets using a taper die I made with a throating reamer.  I run the bullets into the taper die nose first after lubing in a lubrisizer.  I've been tapering them to the point where I can just see marks on the front edge of the base band.  It requires a knockout punch the top of which has been drilled with a 60 degree center drill.  This keeps the bullet lined up in the die.  I've had good results in both 32-20 WCF and 38-55.  Having 2 lubrisizers speeds up the process.  The 32-20 has a 1 1/2 degree throat with .100 freebore.  The 38-55 has the standard SAMMI ( I think ) throat which is pretty steep and no freebore.
