Pan luber here as well. I pre-heat the bullets in the oven. 200 deg for a few minutes before pouring the lube from my double boiler.

Well I will say I have done both and use a lube pump. It does not take much time to do 100 bullets. and the mess is far less than most would lead you to believe. Making the dies can some times be a bit of a PIA but it is not rocket science.

I must be a heretic,  I store my lube in a 1# deli tub and  nuke it before pouring in the tray with my bullets.  After the lube hardens  and I pop the bullets out   I breakup the  cake, re-nuke and it melts back into a deli tub shaped cake.   The bases are clean and if I don't rush the cooling the bullets come out neatly.
Love that microwave.

After lubing, I use a push-through sizing die - at least to strip off the excess lube, sometimes to true up a bit.  Pushing through tends to squeeze MOST of the lube off the base.  Rubbing the base on a shop towel does the rest.

Thank you for your thoughts, looks like I will stick with pan lube for my tapered breech seated bullets. I use a Star lube sizer for my gas checked bullets and was thinking about making a tapered die and an ejector for the Star but from your collective opinions does not look like it would be worth the effort .

I would like to try the lube pump.  I've tried sending an email to Willis, but still haven't heard anything back, maybe he's busy or has been away.  I guess I'll continue pan lubing until I can acquire one of those nice dell style lube pumps.

P.S.  for those who pan lube in the oven, you might want to try on of those silicone baking pans.  When the lube is cool the whole block just pops right out.

I used to use a slow cooker to melt my lube.  Set my bullets in a shallow tupperware container, pour in the melted lube and waited until it cooled.  Pop the bullets out, wiped off the bottoms, done.

Never mind the mule. Just load the wagon.

I use a pump mainly for tapered bullets and other odd shapes, and a Star luber for cylindrical bullets, or ones that need a little sizing.   The Star has the advantage over other lubrisizers in that you can easily turn out a die of any size.
A neat tip for wiping off the bases -- wear a pair of old trousers, and wipe the bases on your thigh.   When the pants are thoroughly greasy, throw them in the laundry.
With proper dies, though, neither the Star nor the pumps are messy.
Willis Gregory's pumps are the same as the DELL lube pump.  ONly criticism is that the cross-bar handle is not as handy as a circular one.   On the ones that I make, I use a hose-bib knob.   Not as cute, but works better.   Maybe another criticism is that I would use an o-ring instead of a cup on the piston.

I went from sizing bullet with Lubri-Sizer, to getting slightly larger sizing dies for the Lubri-Sizer so it wouldn't size the bullets, to pan lubing, to tumble lubing.
I would NOT go back.
Lube on the base is not a concern, and you can easily wipe it off on a shop towel if it bothers you.

I do both. Pan for 25 cal, pump for 32. It is no fun to arrive at a match and find your pre lumber bullets are now bright and shiny and naked. With a pump you can lube in the hotel room the night before a match. I use a towel on the bench under my rest and wipe the base on it.  Works for me
Does Single shot still make the pumps and dies? I heard he stopped making them.     Cry

rfd - to each their own, but that seems like a lot of effort. Especially as much as my hands shake I would be dropping bullets into the can/pan all the time. Unless there is some advantage I do not see, if I had to do them individually I would go back to the lubrisizer. I like doing them 50+ at a time. Takes about 15min turn-around time on a batch. Only handle the bullets to go from the Styrofoam to lube-cake and then back into the Styrofoam after popping out of the lube-cake. 10min of that time is waiting while the double-boiler (fondue pot) melts the lube. Do other things during that time.

I dip-lube when doing smallish batches for any reason. I use a double boiler setup with a heavy-bottomed glass containing just an inch or so of lube so it's easy to melt quickly. But, what I use to hold the bullets is a long pair of stamp collector's tweezers. These have three closely spaced tips that point inward and grasp the lead nose well enough to hold securely. Presto! I know I'd have most of my bullets in the bottom using the wire thing, so if you can do it, you have my respect. Sort of what's fun is to find ways to do stuff, isn't it?   Pat

I dip lube, use hemostats to dip and then to squish onto a metal sheet.  Bullets freeze and stick instantly (stay that way for storage too).

Cookie cutter or push through Lee sizer.  Pushing through leaves bases almost perfectly clean from lube.

yep, to each their own.  having used lubrasizers (don't like them at all) and pan lubing, i really like dip lubing.

pan lubing requires waiting for a large amount of lube to solidify and that takes quite awhile.  i can dip lube 50 bullets and have them ready to load in 1/4 or less the time of pan lubing.  it's all good, do what worx best for ya, ymmv.  Cool
