Know it is a pistol bullet, but can anyone identify the maker of this mold. No markings. The rounded ends of the mold should help.

Looks to me to be a custom mould for a light 45-70 bullet.

To me the rounded corners on the mold make it look amateur done.   hand shaped---a bit rough and non-symetrical--  and some of the screws look to be hardware store type. The sprue plate appears to be a stamping.  the bevel base and the crimping groove make it look like a pistol bullet to me. I wonder what it'd make diameter with a hard pistol bullet alloy?

Per eBay description:

This is a single-cavity 0.457 bullet mold producing a 205 gr bullet suitable for the 45-70 cartridge. The bullet length is approximately 0.60 inches.

The manufacturer is unknown

It looks like a "one of" custom mold. It's not by anyone that makes molds for a living.

While the cavity looks well made, the rest is just assymbled parts. Regualar 1/4" dowel pins at have been hand ground to give them a little more taper. A Lyman SC sprue plate and various machine screw types.

If I had a need for it, I wouldn't hesitate using it, the cavity looks like it will product a very good bullet. My guess it that it was made for a oversize, cylinder and bore Colt PM.

Maybe for a .455 Webley. Some of them had some weird throats and bores.

I just love to look at all the weird junk on eBay! What I believe that mold to be; is a 200 grain Ideal #452460 semi-wadcutter for a 45 ACP. Lyman/Ideal molds usually cast a bit large, and I doubt that the owner has actually cast bullets with it 'cause if he had he'd have included them in the picture. Now...someone has cut the mold down to make it lighter weight....I think  Roll Eyes

By all the lead smeared on top of the block it would appear to have been used by the previous owner? I believe the lack of sample bullets would be due to this mould as well as the others being donated to the club for disposable income.

that crimp groove does not quite look the same as the crimp groove on the Ideal mold pictured to me

Yes QM, I agree! And there's also a lip on the mouth of the chamber (I like flat bases myself) and the mold looks a bit too large for a Lyman. One time I asked Paul Jones if he'd make me a small light weight version of one of his molds, but he said no.  Huh

looks like the original could have been longer and milled off on the base end leaving just the rim of the previous driving band to give a beveled base bullet---as I recall they were used a lot for revolver loading,   I'm guessing it is a pistol bullet for a oversize bore rimmed 45 of some sort.  I'd hate to do any serious casting with it.  that base rim is ragged enough that getting bullets out would be a PITA.
