Gents... Recently I have come into the care of various items that I could use some help with identifying... first off is a Cramer bullet mould marked No 45, it is a base pour two cavity mold, gas checked... There was a single bullet stored in the mould that measures out to 0.313 diameter..1.013 long single lube groove.
The second item is an Ideal decapper/resizer.. Marked Ideal stamped in the metal of the unit is 257 Rem.... it came with a die that is marked for 45-70 cmr...
Any help identifying these items and there approximate value would be appreciated.
There is also a couple of levers, a trigger group that I beleive to be from a Ballard and a butt plate. In the pile was two barrels as well... one is a 54 cal front stuffer Hawken... and the other has a threaded end for the receiver and what looks to be a place for a percussion cap?? Was a Ballard action ever offered or set up for loading from the pointy end?? This barrel has no markings on it...
I will try and get some pics posted if anyone is interested...Thanks...
Randy A.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

A lot of Ballards were refitted with muzzleloading barrels for target work. But they still used a cartridge filled with gunpowder chambered to fire them. These were almost exclusively competition rifles used in the late 1800's and early 1900's.
If by chance this is on a Ballard barrel and has thimbles under the barrel for a cleaning rod, then it wont be a muzzleloader, but simply a barrel as used on the #5 Pacific Ballard, and a couple other models.

I checking the Cramer catalogue I have the bullet no. 45 is the .311-165 grain Squib gas check bullet for .30 cal. rifles.
