Listed as a Stevens 44 but I believe it's a 44-1/2.

It's a 44 1/2 for sure,

Shame about the  butt ugly stock, barrel, and cheap scope. If I was bidding it would be for the action only, throw the rest away

I've never seen a barrel that was octagon at each end and round in the middle. That's a new one on me.
And I agree with Boats, looks like a 44 1/2 for sure.

Forestock overlaps the action too. Wonder what that was about ? Nice piece of wood though

I saw it the other day. Way too modified for my taste. Would make a neat shooter. Would like to know what it was chambered in. If I remember right the factory never offered a 45 caliber. I do have a .44-40 though.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

Not a fan of most of what they did on the stock, flat matte action and barrel, etc. I'd have to buy it cheap enough to redo it.

It's a 44 1/2 for sure. That's a 45/70 Gatling Gun barrel on it. Who knows what the chambering is. As has been mentioned, it would be an action only for a rebuilding project. I've got too many projects now.

This is what happens when Harlow Parkenfarker gets ahold of a perfectly good 44 ˝. The first thing he does is buff it all down so he can hot blue it. Then he sticks a barrel that has a chamber that is too big for the shank. There is a reason CPA makes their action thicker so it will take a Winchester size shank. Now he ruins a perfectly good piece of lumber by trying to “Modernize” the look. All in all I wouldn’t take that thing to a dogfight much less a match where anybody I know could see me.

Looks like some one paid $530.00 for this Rifle. And it seems the Builder wanted a Heavy Bull Barrel but thought to leave the Muzzle and Breech ends Octagon for sight mounting.  It looks like a Front mount that is dovetail Shape lengthwise instead of Crosswise is screwed on the Barrel, I wonder Why.

Best Regards,
