I am thinking about buying a Stevens rifle chambered for 32 rim fire and as I've never had anything using this cartridge, I'm wondering about the availability of same. Any thoughts?????

Thank you,

YEARS AGO,Navy Arms used to import short and long .32 RF .
But any existing stock has become collector ammo in it's own right.
I haven't seen anything available for quite some time.
A popular solution is to find a spare breech block and convert to CF.
Then you can shoot .32 Colts which are re-loadable.

Or check the Oct. 2010 issue of Single Shot Exchange for an article on making both 32 RF and CF in various lengths. Last time I checked, they still had back issues. Not hard, lots of fun, and none of your pals at the range will have one.

I think the Old Western Scrounger still sells the Brazilian .32RF ammo.  Check their site.

Make sure you are sitting down when you look for the price.

Real .32 rimfire is almost non-existant.

There's a cottage industry in making adaptors that use a .22 blank or a "powder-actuated tool" cartridge as either primer or propellant or both.   As I recall, Dixie Gunworks was selling such an adaptor.   There was an endless thread on Cast Boolits on the subject.

Stevens used a slow (26") twist in their .32 rimfire barrels, so bullet have to be pretty light.

here's an informative link to a blog pertaining to fabricating makeshift ammo for the .32 RF.

Ballards may be weaker,
but they sure are neater!

I've hoarded almost every box I could get my hands on over the last 30 years. I have all my friends grab any loose rounds they see cheap enough at garage sales or gun shows. Now I don't own a gun in .32RF, except a few Ballard #2's that also shoot .32 Long CF, and I don't shoot the RF in them.

That's it.   .32  Colt CF brass can easily be swaged from .32 S&W and then modified.  Or you could turn them from bar stock if you had a lathe.   Bullets from an Ideal 299152 or 299153 mould will be best.    Before I found a source, I just breech-seated a  Hornady swaged .32 caliber hollow base wadcutter in my Bay State.

It's also not all THAT hard to weld up and redrill the firing pin hole on a Stevens action.  (I'm assuming it's a Favorite or a Model 44.)  Then you can shoot .32 Colt, which is also obsolete, but a darn sight easier to make.

Try Farnswoth Ammo in Vermont. They made the 32 rimfire and sold it to Navy Arms for a while. Phone # 802-759-2561.

Very True, it is much easier to 'downsize' .32 S&W Long to .32 Long Colt than it would be to form '.32 Long RF case, then Prime it , then charge and Seat a Bullet for a one shot use'.

I just returned from the Las Vegas antique gun show. .32 rim fire ammunition is $150 a box. I was able to make connection with one dealer that has a decent supply at that price.  Kenn

Going to have to shoot what I have sparingly at those prices. Bought mine for $24.95 a box plus shipping from Navy Arms the last time they had it available.

I have a Favorite in .32 that has a spare CF block to shoot the Colt brass. If I sell it, the RF block goes back on and the CF gets trashed unless I can find an ethical buyer.
