While I'm asking, what/where do folks come up with lead .22cal bullets? Anyone shoot something they like in a CF .22?

Glenn, the starting brass for the 22/3000 Lovell is the 25/20 SS. I think there were 2 versions, one with a sharper shoulder. You could probably make brass by simply running it through the sizing die, fireforming and trimming.

Most common sharp shoulder version is called the .22 Lovell R2, (or 2R).    Much, much easier to find dies for than the original.  (After 10+ years and 4 Lovell rifles I'm still looking.)  There was a Lovell Maximum which had an even sharper shoulder and a very short neck.  I know of one member who's got one.

Have you acquired a Lovell rifle?  Welcome to the clan!  Pictures please.....

Lovells were never shot with cast bullets back in the day.  But a good few were made using .22 rimfire barrel blanks, and therefor prefer .223 jacketed bullets.   When I shoot cast I have had to cast my own.   Lee Bator mould.  Any .22 mould could be made to work.  Max weight would be not more than 50 grains, IMHO

Brass is made from .25-20 Stevens, although J.B. Smith and Griffin & Howe both had R2 brass made with their own headstamp.   G&H brass was made by Winchester, and is pretty good, although rather thin.   It sometimes comes up for sale on Gunbroker.  Today I mostly use reformed Jamison, which is much heavier and needs a full grain reduction in powder charge.   There are other options, but those two are the best, IMHO.    Captech Intl. (Jamison) at last contact was out of formed .25-20, and had only .25-20 Basic for sale.   This I have found does NOT reform easily to the Lovell.   You have to first anneal, then form to .25-20, then form to the Lovell.

There was recently brass available at the small caliber site Saubier.com. I think that R2 dies were there as well if you find its not a straight 22-3000. Brass shows occaisionally on EBay.
While I shoot jacketed slugs in the 35-40 gr range, I'd suggest you consider starting out with AA1680.

Certainly agree with 1680 for jacketed.  Much too slow for cast.  For cast I go with the pistol powders like AA #5 and even Unique.
