Loading the 38-55 W&H

Becoming the recent owner of a W & H tip open, with a 28" 38-55 barrel, I am setting up to load for it, and could use some experienced advise on loads, bullets etc, that have worked for others.  I have a supply of Goex in FF and FFF, as well as Swiss 1.5F.  My smokeless is AA 5744.  I'm looking for consistency and accuracy to 200yds or so.
Thanks
Chester

Chester, I have a Hoch mold that throws a 300 gr bullet very similar to the hone that John Boy posted the difference being that mine is tapered. I beleave that mold may be available from CPA. I loaded it over 42 gr of CTG with a LDPE wad and a wax paper wad and set the bullet out to engage in the rifling a little. I don't know if you would be able to do that or not. I did not shoot it on paper as I just put together a handful just to try. Once sighted in, I was able to keep 10 out of 10 on a standard silhouette pig at 300M. That would put the group inside of a 2x4 minute area. I don't think thats bad for just a  tossed together load. Also keep in mind that My rifle has a 15" twist barrel, but that bullet should shoot ok in a bit slower barrel.

I notice the mold site lists the bullet as cast from straight wheel weights.  Any thoughts on alloys?  The rifling isn't very deep on my barrel.  Might a softer mix work better??

Three options:
* Call or email Tom at Accurate mold to cut the mold to the alloy you want
* COWW is Bhn 15.4 which is Lyman #2.  My favorite BPCR alloy is 1:16
* Cast with the mold the alloy of your choice

I had one of those W&H 38s mine liked the 335 grain postel by Lyman.i shot 2 fg goex express I believe 43.0 grains. I put a 30-40 Krag sight on the barrel and it kept up at our local matcha to 300 yards.I shot 20-1 alloy. Bill

I am going to expose my ignorance and ask; what is a "W&H"? Embarrassed
