  Hello Brudford ---

Another option for you to consider would be the Columbia Schuetzverein which conducts schuetzen matches three time a year (Spring, Summer, and Fall) and each match consists of a Friday, Saturday and Sunday.  There are ample camping facilities within a short walk to the range, whether that be a motor-home or a wall-tent.

The matches of which I speak are held in Frederick County, Maryland adjacent to the town of Thurmont, Maryland.  From Gettysburg, PA, one would drive south on U.S. Route 15, although there are several other alternative for traveling to Thurmont from Western Pa.

Here is a link to the range facilities which is self explanatory.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Once at the web site scroll down the left side menu and click on "schuetzen".  One would not have to attend the three consecutive days and should pick any of the three days or less which best accommodates the individual shooter's needs and time availability.

Hello Again, Brudford --

Since this is the thread is RE; schuetzen matches and opportunities, let me provide you with a little additional information here.

The Columbia Schuetzverein does not own any physical property, particularly not real estate w/ club house etc. etc.  (They do own a tool box to carry paper work in.)

They have established a " pay as you go " arrangement with the host facility which charges a fee for the use of their facility three times a year.  The host facility is everything BUT a schuetzen club.  They are made up of the "AR" black platic boys, the Cow Boy late blummers, the Bench Rest fellas, the pistol shooter, trap and skeet, etc.

I suppose at one time they scratched their collective heads when the idea of schuetzen matches was brought up in discussion.

There is a siniliar situation in southern Virginia and another in North Carolina if you would prefer the Southern hospitality rather than Maryland.

My best adviceis for you to "shop around" and gather information.  But why not try them all and then you decide what suits your needs best and go there for matches.

I don't think you will ever run into a situation where the schuetzen membership is "sold out" Wink   Wink

Hey Brudfurd,
I'm in Canonsburg! I think the New Philadelphia shoots are the closest to us. There are one or two sites in Western NY and as Dr. M said the Columbia Schuetzverein in Thurmont.

I haven't made it to any shoots....yet. Someday.

Hi Moshannon , I used to work at Cannonsberg Hospital . Living in Cranberry Twp. now . I went on that clubs site in New Philadelphia OH , the Tusco Rifle club . Seems like a nice club . I figure it is about 80 miles for me ?  Not sure ? I would really like to try some bench Schuetzen since that is what I ordered from CPA their bench model in 32-40 . Thanks all for the replies .
