When I was still shooting BPCR Silhouette I used Remington 2 1/2 primers with Swiss 1 1/2 powder in my 45-70. The combination was good enough to get me into Master Class, and keep me there.

That seems a popular combination, for good reason. Shoots needed group sizes for me, just have not quite kept it together for master-level scores yet.

Another vote for 2 1/2 Remingtons for BP, they also worked best for me with SR4759 powder. My #2 choice for both is the Federal F150.

I also used Rem 2 1/2 pistol primers in my 40-65 shot in an original High Wall action.   Wound up peening the
breech block and had to fix it.  If I were to do it again I would use paper shim under primer to prevent that from
happening again.  May not be a problem with modern actions.

CCI 200 or Rem 9 1/2. Both large rifle. Whatever you start with, get a good load and then try other primers and see if it makes a difference. I've tried large pistol and find no advantage so have stayed with large rifle as they are easy to come by and have worked up good loads with them. No magic in primers.

I bought a primer pocket swage from Kermit Hoke that swaged a LRP pocket down to a LPP pocket when I was shooting my Hepburn. Never had a problem with my Browning BPCR.

Kermit may still have a few for sale.

Jerry, how does the LR to Lp swage work? I have one of Fred Cornells flash hole swages that goes from .080 down to .060 but have not had time to try it much. I punch large pistol primers through .008 art paper to seat them out on most loads.

Hank45,

My favorite primer for Swiss Fg powder is the Rem 2 1/2.
This is in my 45-70, so I'm not sure if that will scale down to the 32-40 volume.

Keep on hav'n fun!
