CPA Barrels and non-lead

While I'am waiting for my new CPA bench rifle in 32-40 to arrive has anyone tried any of the lead free jacketed bullets or environmentally friendly bullets in their's. It is inevitable that all lead bullets ( cast ) and lead core bullets will be outright banned with the current political climate, CA has started already ! Schetuzen shooting and single shot rifle competitions will end as we know it . The lead safe bullets will be the only option . I'am thinking I might get 3-5 years before it happens here in Western PA .

The rules of the ASSRA state in no uncertain terms that only plain-based lead bullets may be used in competition. I cannot speak for the ISSA but I believe that it is true for them also. The only thing that jackets are good for is prematurely wearing out a barrel.
As to lead substitutes I know of nothing that works as well as lead-tin alloy.

If you think lead will disappear, simply figure out how many rounds you fire every year.  Multiply that by how many years you want to keep shooting; multiply that number by your bullet weight in grains; divide that by 7000.  That will tell you how many pounds of lead you will need for the rest of your shooting career.  Then buy that much lead from a reliable source and quit worring about a possible lead shortage.  While you are at it, buy enough powder and primers to support your lead supply.

Would that be called hoarding or prudence?  I tend to think the latter, as if/when a ban draws near prices will skyrocket.

But as in my earlier post, there is always someone out there to take it away.

George I see your point . I have lots of lead saved . My fault because I did not make my point very well . We have had a lead ban for Duck and Goose hunting here in Western Pa for years I use steel shot myself . I'am saying there will be a ban on any lead projectile either all lead bullets or FMJ with a lead core . This will be at your local private gun club . No lead bullets on your private rifle range , your pistol ranges , and your Skeet and Trap ranges . All it will take is a rule from the Federal EPA or an Executive order from the White House , we now know that no one will stand up to these Executive orders !

The NSSF is requesting support from  all shooters.

National Shooting Sports Foundation

Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act

The National Shooting Sports Foundation supports the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act for FY15 and strongly encourages a Yes vote.

Though no bill is perfect, the NSSF supports this legislation because it protects the rights of hunters and sportsmen, not Washington bureaucrats, to choose the ammunition they want for hunting and target shooting, by preventing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from banning traditional ammunition made with lead components (95% of all ammunition made and sold).

NSSF encourages you to contact your member of Congress at 202-224-3121 and ask them to vote YES on the Consolidated and Further Continuing Appropriations Act (H.R. 83).
