I found these pictures on the web. It was a rifle that sold some time ago. Claimed it was a Schoyen done rifle. I do not know but I thought it was interesting.

The aformentioned Ballard resides in my rack, and it is indeed a barrel marked Schoyen .22LR.  The interesting scalloped receiver and wood are thought to be one of the ways Schoyen worked but not by any means indicative as shown by the many Schoyens that do not display this receiver work.  Also interesting is that although the rifle has a single trigger, it is fully adjustable for let off by a screw through the base of the trigger, which is also finely checkered.

You are then a very lucky person to have this rifle. Very nice. Very nice.
Hope you don't mind me showing the pics of your treasure.
I would love to see the back of the action with the wood removed. If you ever take the buttstock off, I know I and probably others would be pleased with your sharing them.

Ballards may be weaker,

Very interesting rifle, and neat treatment to the rear of the receiver! Is this possibly one of the Schoyens that was maybe done when Peterson worked at Schoyen's? Or is it possibly a Schoyen relined by Peterson to .22LR ??
From what little info I have, Schoyen did very little .22 caliber barrels, but Peterson did quite a few once he joined Schoyen, and a lot more after Sschoyen died, and continued to use the Schoyen rollstamp long after his death.
That's a very rare and unusual Ballard you have! Any chance we could see the whole gun?

This barrel has the bore cut off center so the center mounted firing pin hits the rim of the 22 case. Jeff I'm sure can explain much more

Jeff in the picture of the breech there is a circular line that could be a relining witness mark, do you know if it was relined?

The circular line I just mentioned does not appear to be a relining line. Another friend who has a Schoyen has says his gun has the same small step in the breech face.

My Schoyen in .38-55 doesn't have any ring or raised area on the chamber end. Just flat across the end.
My Zettler Bros. Ballard has a Win. .22 Short barrel on it, and it was done offset like that Schoyen is. But mine is not nearly as far offset as that Schoyen for some reason?

The barrel has not been relined.  LRF correctly explained the offset.  I purchased this rifle from Buckstix several years ago.  Perhaps he could give us more information as to where he got the rifle.  It is a nifty shooter, far more accurate the the current owner!
