Favorite bullet for the .32-40???

I have a new C. Sharps 1885 in .32-40.
Anyone have a favorite cast bullet/mould for their .32-40 rifle?
I will be shooting 200 Yds and using fixed smokeless ammo.    Target shooting only.
If'n so, would you share that information? Smiley Smiley

Thanks.
Gary

I recommend you narrow your parameter(s) down to how you intend to load, e.g., fixed cartridge or breech loaded, range, purpose, etc.

Twist rate of your barrel will be important. Slow twist (original barrel) will not stabilize the same length bullet as will a newer, faster twist barrel. What's your twist (kinky Wink)? Easily measured or ask John or Pete at C. Sharps. Terrific rifle. Did you get the SST?

I only have the old factory guns Win 1894 , and Hiwall, Marlin 1893 in 32-40 , They all like the RCBS 32-170 GC for fixed ammo 4227 & 4198

I'm using 319-289 this weekend. Seems to give the best accuracy one could expect for
fixed ammo. Not usually target accuracy.  Works okay for offhand. I've never been able to get target accuracy with any plain base fixed 32-40 loads. Pure lino may work.

Good luck.

I have a C. Sharps Arms M1885 .32-40 ("Schuetzen-style") rifle, 1:15 twist.  I directly ordered a custom, NON-TAPERED, Hoch mould 322200 specified for fixed ammunition, weight is 208gr using 25:1 Rotometals lead.  It is a version of the TAPERED Hoch bullet sold by Midway (#712098).  Which I can go to if I decide to start breech-loading.  Lead temperature has to be maintained about 815-825 degrees.  Did bottom pour and had wide variance in weight, i.e., -4oz - +2oz (my bad); will go to ladle.  Sized to .321 using SPG.

Hornady dies, RCBS Neck Sizer and Cowboy expander.  Winchester case and LR primers.  Started with 14.0gr IMR4227.  Currently at 14.5gr, 1405fps.  OAL: 2.615”.  In spring, will test closer to lands (OAL: 2.640"), maybe another .01".

My advice... listen to these guys - decades of experience.
