Thinking I might order a CPA Bench Rest rifle from CPA in 32-40 . I have e-mailed my questions to CPA and awaiting an answer . I was wondering if anyone here has this rifle in the configuration I want to order ? Keep the wide forearm and replace the rear stock with either the varmit or sporter stock . I also have no desire to ever breech seat, is this a breech only seating chamber ?And last Iam also not interested in the switch barrel system , anyone have a fixed threaded barrel into the reciever from CPA ? Thanks

I do know that the switch barrel system is part of the way it is designed, just like the original Stevens 44 1/2. If you do not need it simply leave the barrel in place. A lot of the originals were never taken apart based on how hard some of them are to remove. The fact that you can remove the barrel easily in no way affects the accuracy or function.

Some of what you say does not make sense. Order the Butt Stock and forearm you desire so the wood will match and the need to switch out the benchrest butt stock goes away, its money saved and the wood will match. I would forget the email and simply give them a call so you can hash it all out in one pleasant conversation, they are good people to work with and to talk to.

*1 for OkeyMaple. I sent a spec sheet and called
Gail. Told her I was a noob breech seater and wanted a 32-40 with BR foreend but with a sporter butt stock. She walked me through I wound up with what I expect will be a stunning rifle and a shooter to boot. Extra fancy wood, checkered steel butt plate, Shilen barrel half-round heavy barrel. I just wish I was still young enough to have 20 years to wear this one out!

It's a completely custom deal. Yes they have "models" but you can specify practically anything.
Just as others say, call Gail. She is a splendid person.

Absolutely +1 on the other posts concerning contacting Gail personally. She will help you get the rifle you're looking for, no doubt about it.
Gail and Paul are without a doubt two of the nicest, most knowledgeable (and patient) people you could ever hope to deal with. Their customer service is second to none.

If your looking for accuracy breech-seating is your best bet. Over the years I have seen more talented shooters try to figure out a way to accurately shoot fixed. The closeted was Marlin Basset and well prepped breech sweaters could beat him.

Recently someone posted a photo of their rifle and t was configured much as you describe. It had a bench forearm and, I believe, a varminter butt stock.
Even if you do not want to breech seat now, I'd keep the possibility in the back of my mind. The technique has a number of advantages.
Chris.
