So who makes a sight base these days? Will any Marbles fit?

Hello One at a Time---

The Mass Arms Co produced fold down tang sight which was shipped with certain Maynard rifles and carbines were, and are, proprietary to Maynard firearms.

The main, but not the exclusive, reason being that the spring which applies pressure to the staff in order to keep the staff in the upright position is installed UNDER the top tang piece and remains in that location after the sight with the base is removed. (That is the little hole in the top tang 1/2 the distance from each of the two female threaded holes for the base hold down screws)

As a current source for the Maynard fold down tang sight Google onto " S and S Firearms " located in New York.  Once there you will be able to purchase just the base (don't forget to purchase the two hold down screws, OR you will be able to purchase the entire sight including the base.

Of course, the S and S Maynard sight parts are reproductions, and not original from Mass Arms.  I have several and they are quite serviceable and at a fair price.

If further information will assist you, please ask.

One At A Time --

There is one other thing I wanted to mention to you.

If you have a fold down tang sight already whether that be Italian made or American, there is a route that you can take which will allow you to use your existing staff on a Maynard rifle/carbine.

A gentleman in Virginia whose name is John Bly and who is a member on this forum as "Deadeye Bly" was at one time making tang sight bases which accept his customers vertical staff with no alteration required to be made to the staff.  The result being you simply move the staff from gun to gun by removing the "cross screw" and then the staff.

Don't know what his work load is right now or if and when he could get that custom base out for your application.

He does excellent work, therefore he keeps busy.

Wink
