I have two of this type rifle (both HW) and mine and all the others that I've seen have also been well done. I believe that their era is from after WWII to maybe the early 70's. I personally like the style of them and both of mine are extremely accurate with jacketed bullets.

I've thought about putting a modern chambered cast bullet barrel on one of them but, haven't needed that YET

Try 33.0 to 33.3 gr of Varget, I've only had mine out 3 times. Once with 4064, once with 4895 (got them loaded with the rifle) and Varget, all with 55 gr Hornady SX. At 33.0 I got a 1/2" 5 shot @ 100. I haven't had it out since to try the 33.3 load.

tim_s, What bullet are you using in your 20tac. I like the 39 grain Blitz King by Sierra. Have used it in my 204 Ruger rifles on chucks, and other varmints. The rifles are a Cooper and a custom Borden. Both are Super accurate and explosive on varmints. Have tried about all other brands of bullets and weights in the .204 and still like it the best. Have a friend that shoots it in his 20 Vartarg. His use also has been very successful indeed.

Where in the east do you live. I'm about 8 miles north of the Mohawk Valley in NY. Started with the V-Max and they did OK. Ordered a few boxes more and they would not group to save my life! I tried to get RL10X to work but gave up and went with N135. Tried H322, BL-C2, Varget, and a few others. Best was with the N135. I have to make mention that the Berger 35 grain also shot very well, but didn't do the damage that the Blitz King does on light skinned critters. Longest shot with my 204 is on a chuck at a laser measured 506 yards. My friend with the 20 Vartarg hit one at 601 yards. It left blood and got down the hole. I watched the shot through a Leupold 40X spotting scope. It was a great shot with the tiny cartridge.

Tim, I've got Todd's book and I gave RL10X a valid try with charge weight adjustment. It was a no go in the 204 Ruger. I'm in Gloversville. Just north of Fonda. You still hunt chucks? I do some.

That sounds like the place to go. Most of my hunting spots have dried up. Houses being built, and Amish moving into the area don't want other hunting.

Most chucks I ever killed in a year was 248 back in 1989. Had one day back then when I was south of Lowville NY where a farmer allowed to hunt  in one of his back fields off Rt28. I believe that is in the Tug Hill area or close to it. The field was one that could not be seen from the road. Rolling small hills with rock piles in the corner, and a big tree with junk around it near the middle of the field. Longest shot was just over 300 yards. There I spent the afternoon with a pair of Remington 722 rifles. One in 222 Rem and the other in 6MM Rem. Sixteen fell to the 222 Rem before I switched to the 6MM Rem and shot another 7. I have never made it back into that area to hunt again.
