Don passed away overnight. Many knew him, knew of him, used his muzzleloading barrels. An empty place for Thanksgiving.

Sorry to hear. I spoke to him a few times years ago as a customer. One of my favorite rifles is a flintlock southern mountain rifle built with one of his 7 groove 40cal barrels.

My condolences to his family.

I had a Getz barrel made in .50 cal for a custom Shiloh I had made way back in the early 80's.  Shiloh was using a slow twist in their early barrels and I wanted a 1:25".  Getz made the blank, I sent it to Shiloh, and they profiled and chambered it for .50--2 1/2".  Gun turned up in the "Art of the Engraver" section of the 1984 Gun Digest, as I had Greg Dixon engrave it for me in a Nimschke pattern. I hand polished barrel and action, and did the stock work, except the checkering, which I farmed out to Mike Fix.

Sorry to hear that. On this sidde of the pond Don Good's funeral was reported in the Eastern Daily Press today. Report (which I haven't read fully yet) will be on (You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

He used to be a gunsmith at Churchill's, and was latterly a blacksmith.

Don Getz was a fine man. I always enjoyed visiting with him at Freindship and the CLA show at Lexington KY. His barrels were good shooters and he built some beautiful rifles in his time.
