Seeking Green Mountain .38-55 load recipes

Hey Folks,
I'm having a gunsmith create a .38-55 gun on an original Ballard action using a new Green Mountain 1-in-12 barrel for BPCR silhouette shooting.  It'll be a few months, but in the meantime I need to find a bullet mould, etc.
So I'd be interested in hearing from people who have similar setup - what load (bullet diameter, weight, etcs.,) works well for you?

Thanks,

-Nick

My wife's 12 twist .38-55 BPCR, we are using .38-55 Starline long brass, chamber custom cut to match that brass and the 365 grain NASA bullet by Old West Bullet Molds.  I'm loading 4198 powder, chronographed to 1375 fps.  This is to duplicate the ballistics of our .38-72 blackpowder load.  I think it took about 24 grains of IMR4198 to meet that velocity.  I am using puflon as a filler over the powder.  It seems to work about equally well with or without, but slightly lower SD in velocity with it.

Have had good success in a 13.25" twist barrel with the BACo 360gr Money bullet and 48gr of 3F Swiss in the Winchester and long Starline case (Win seems to be a bit better). Also, a Brooks 340gr Money bullet with 47gr of 3F Swiss. Both are excellent out to 600yd.

I'm using Buffalo Arms' 330 grain Creedmore (JIM377325C1), 30/1, SPG, over 46 grains Swiss 3f (compressed), and CCI LP primer.
I forgot to include .03" over powder wad.

I'm in the process of putting a 38-55 BRC barrel on my CPA.  I test fired it for function yesterday using the plain old Lyman 375248 bullet cast of wheel weights.  I used 18 grains of some old 296 that needs to be shot up, looking for around 1400 fps.  After 3 fouling and bag fiddling shots the next 7 went into 3/4" at 90 yds.  That wasn't supposed to happen with fixed ammunition and a random test fire load.  I don't know what to think about it other than if you can't be good, be lucky.

Am guessing they won't let the OP use those smokeless loads in BPCR silhouette. Wink

FWIW my CPA 38-55 using their basic 28" barrel, will put that same bullet cast 20:1 (over 4759) thru the same ragged hole at 100Y using fixed ammo, albeit that was scoped and benched ...

All of my single shots shoot one tiny ragged hole with cast bullets ... it's just the following shots that tend to open up my groups Wink ...

That's good to know.  I may not need to order another mold.  I have a throater on order but I think I'll play with it awhile as is before I change anything.  I tried the same load today with the aperture sights.  It shot into 1 3/4".  Maybe the 12 degree temperature had something to do with the larger group.
