1207P seems to be the last barrel he actually worked on himself. In later letters he stated if while at Stevens and he worked on the barrel the Pope barrel number would have a  P  after it.
29aholic, Looks like the rifle has had different scopes and bases on it thus the screw holes and I would guess different stocks at one time.

Well you know benchrest guys they are always messing with things. I really hope this gun shoots, it has been a life quest for one I could own. I lucked out in Tulsa and traded for it. If it don't shoot it will be one expensive lamp

In the late 50s and 60s there was a tradition of repurposing barrels from Pope Schoyen Zischang ect. that had been removed from their actions. As horrible as this sounds today many Schuetzen guns were repurposed as varminters. Gunsmiths would remove a Pope or other gunsmiths barrel fit a savage or other .22 barrel and chamber it for .22 Mercant Blue Streak or other fashionable varmint caliber. Barrels sat in gun shops old barrel pile until somebody who knew what it was bought it for a dollar or two found another action and built themselves a “Pope”. As bad as this sounds today many were removed and scraped, I have even heard a story of a Pope rifle being rescued from a WWII scrap drive.

The Winders were High Walls cut down to Low Wall dimensions to make loading easier.  They were cut down on both sides to accommodate left handed shooters.  Also for aesthetics.  A High Wall cut down on one side is no thing of beauty.

A stock made for a straight grip High Wall will fit a Winder, & vice versa.  I swap mine around all the time.

I didn't know that. How would you be able to tell? I assume it was a Winder merely because it is drilled for the receiver sights and it was made within two year of them 1885 being discontinued.

^^^^ I answered my own question. I just looked at Winders on GB and my gun was not one. It is a true LW

Winder low walls are flared front & rear like the high walls. Thick side low walls is a misnomer, they're actually narrower than the Winder L/W.        ...MIKE...

with 688 to George Hamm ..............
.....................................................
I once had a Ballard No.9 Union Hill in the late 1980's with a .22 LR round barrel stamped G. Hamm. It truly was a tack driver. My 2nd. wife at the time shot the 50 yd matches at the WNYSS and won them with these tiny groups. The Hamm barrel liked to shoot Eley pistol ammo for these tight groups.
I ended up selling the rifle, but cannot recall where it went or who got it.
