.223 cases into what???
Nov 10th, 2014 at 7:39am
Print Post
Hi all,
I have thousands of once fired .223/5.56 cases and have a couple questions.
Can these be converted into anything useful for a single shot rifle?
Any calibers that can use this as a parent case?
Thanks for looking,
Dave

They can be made into 25-20SS, but it is a LOT of work.

     Hi:

When I was a bit younger, one could purchase dies that formed .222 cases into jacketed .375 bullets.  The .222 case became the bullet jacket and the bullet was a spitzer with a lead tip.  Can you say tough jacket! Lol

.380 auto cases are also .375" outside diameter.

If you ease them into a 32-20 size die and drill out the primer hole they make a good bore guide.  You only need one so don't know what to do with the rest of them.

Best use for a .223 case I found was to form 7MM TCU. Great little round and very accurate.

I would never scrap usable cases.
I can give, sell, or trade them off.
I just hate to send them down the road if I can find a use for them.
Thanks,
Dave

Why not sell it so it can be re-cycled ? And put some money in your pocket to buy usefull brass. Is there something about preserving 223  I am missing ? Zillion or them out there and except the 7 TCU no other cartridges they are suitable for.

Isn't .30 Blackout based on a shortened .223 case?   Not that I hold any brief for it, but it's wildly popular with the black rifle fans these days.

The only thing single shot that you can make up is 25-20 SS, but it is a lot of work now that there is good 25-20 SS Jamison brass available.

Thanks all.
I guess I'll send it down the road.
Didn't want to sell it until I knew I couldn't use it for anything.
Thanks,
Dave

.223 is a good single-shot round. Economical and accurate.

The 6x45 is made from 223 cases and is easy to do.
