Yes, for those who like fine guns, you get a web page.

For those who would prefer to have that rifle than a new Cadillac (and can afford it), you can buy the real deal.

It's a long story, but was invited to a guy's "home"....40,000 sq.ft.  In one of the side rooms were shotgun cabinets on either side of the room,  full of matched wood Purdy's.  It was a sight to behold.

When you say "fine guns" to most of these folks they will think you are talking about a black plastic stocked Savage from Wolly-World or a "blue light special" from K-Whatever or wherever.

To others, "Purdy" is their pronunciation for "pretty" and other hill country broken English.         Roll Eyes

I doubt the folks on this forum think of black plastic as "fine guns". Might apply at other forums.

might be fun to show up at an ASSRA event with a Rem-chester-ballard singleshot stocked in black plastic, just to watch the heads explode.   Grin

Sorry if this appears twice - wireless mouse is almost dead and previous attempt has disappeared.

I said (WTTET) I don't know why. (Well, I do, having seen one of your earlier posts...) but I completely reject your observations. Provided the charge you use is within the limits allowed for by the proof, even a pitted bore is quite safe (within reason).

Damascus steel was used for gun barrels because of its integrity. It is made from two or more grades of steel, forged together. The grades run from soft (malleable) iron to tough carbon steel, and grades between. The best barrels are forged, hardened and then annealed to a bit above the melting-point of lead, where the tougher steels remain hard-wearing, but have characteristics of spring steel.

This is immensely strong, and if it should be overcharged, or the charge fired into an obstruction, the metal will bulge, not shatter. In this case, the strands of the constituent steels may separate, but this only allows excess pressure to vent relatively harmlessly.

Your experience? I would guess it was with a cheap continental (Europe) gun with a barrel  made from nasty metal, and the 'Damascus' pattern chemically etched into the steel. This can be done with acid, or by case-hardening preparations.

I have seen one cheap tart with a barrel made from reamed and turned seam-welded tube, and acid-etched rose damascus pattern on the barrel. The stock was quite expertly stained to make it look a lot better than it really was.

While it has no appeal to me, it is interesting to note that it is not true damascus steel, formed by the repeated folding and forging of different types of steel. It is instead a Swedish steel made with powder technology to replicate the appearance of damascus steel. So, it is not an all damascus firearm, it is an all damascus-looking firearm.
