The palm rest in the picture is fastened at the front of the action.

Guess again!

What I wanted to say: It is not a Swiss Stutzer in 7.5mm, but a Belgian rifle in 6mm.

This kind of rifle and the caliber fits more to the text on the back of the photo...

Have to agree with Wayne on this one. Looks like a big stout Swiss stutzer to me. Look how thick the wrist of the stock is. Palm rest is attached at the front of the action rather than the forestock. What really bothers me is......... where is that mans hat?

Me and my rudimental French language knowledge...

...well...

...I am pretty sure that they shot with 6mm Flobert rifles in the old days.

Thats what the newspaper snippet tells me!  Cheesy

French, not Frankonian!  Wink

I translated it "FLOBERT SHOOTERS CLUB" = "Société Les Flobertistes"

Ey, my French is much better than yours!  Grin

And Flobert rifles were up to 9mm in the old days.

Did I say that it is a Flobert rifle?

Clubs which used to shoot with Flobert rifles switched later to .22 rifles or similar. But they kept their names like "Les Flobertistets".

A name like "the Twenty-Two'sers" would sound odd...  Grin  Tongue  Cool

And this seems to be a 6mm Martini rifle with palm rest.

      Biggi. Lips Sealed

No, you said it's a Francotte rifle. But I agree with Wayne. Think it's a Swiss Stutzer rifle. Okay maybe I'm the one that's tired.  Tongue

Hat?????    try shooting one of 'em with the Swiss Mil-spec hot WW2 K-31 jacketed round.   I did to get my empty cases,  (I got a whole bunch of that ammo cheap from a down-state gunshop-----dumbo owner thought he was ordering 6.5x55 for the local sweede-shooters)   Any how after a batch of that you want a chin-strap on your beanie.
Actually they are not bad offhand--- but off the bench its just like a hot heavy 30-06, but out of a schuetzen stocked rifle.

Personally I believe that the original photo and that clipping were totally mismatched by the seller.

Just look at the lever in the photo and then at the lever of the rifle in the Cowans ad.  Its pretty clearly a Swiss Hammereli Martini
If I could remember how I'd post pics of my rifles but I think both of them are on the display racks in the photo of the ASSRA/NRA show booth on the cover of the last issue of the Journal

My opinion of the day is like follows:

The posing shooter is one of those "Les Flobertistes" club guys from 1927 mentioned in the clipping.

And I don't think they made an upgrade to Swiss Stutzer later, they were shooting those small bore sporting rifles like a "Francotte" in gallery matches.

If we would have a detailed town map of Brussels from early 1930s, we could figure out what kind of buildings were on the mentioned place "322 Tervueren Road". If there was just a small building with a restaurant and no garden, they shot some indoor rifles with smaller calibers. If there would be shown an outdoor range, the likelihood would be higher that this is a Swiss stutzer.

Well, thats like it is!  Cool

                          Biggi.
