Bullard single shot

I was lucky to have the opportunity to pick up a Bullard single shot this weekend at a local gun auction. It's all matching except for the barrel. The receiver is marked 38/55, but the barrel appears to be a 25/20SS, still need to do a chamber casting. It's in very nice condition except that the "smith" that did the re-barrel cut the case head diameter too large and the extractor to small. Cases just slip past the extractor. I can work around the larger head diameter by calling RMC, but the extractor will still be a problem. Can someone with an original please provide me with photos or a drawing of the extractor and rim engagement? I think I may be able to duplicate the extractor with the limited tooling I have, the extractor cut at the chamber does scare me a little though. This isn't the traditional take down version of the Bullard, but it does have a takedown screw below the receiver ring, think Stevens, that allows the barrel to be screwed out of the receiver.

Thanks for any assistance.

Does the extractor appear to wobble side to side? My SS Bullard has an adjustment for the extractor which allows the play to be taken out - too tight and the extractor won't move - too loose and the case slips past. Might be worth a close look. Mine is a take down, but I think the extractors may be the same.

If it's not an adjustment issue, would it be possible to build it up via welding and re-cut it? I'm not quite sure how it's done but I've seen it on a few old varmint rifle conversions. I'd bet some of the folks on this board would know how.

I'll have to take it down again to inspect the extractor, but I don't recall seeing any sort of adjustment to it or the block. It was just the ring with a straight finger, no flange extending under the case head. Adding a shim may take up some slack, but between the simple extractor and the cut for the case head being oversized, I don't think it is going to do much. Building up a flange and cutting a new slot for the extractor is probably the easiest option. Hopefully in the future I can get a 38/55 barrel for it to return it to original spec.

Here are few photos of the rifle and the extractor with a case in the chamber.

IIRC, Bullard rifles were chambered for a series of proprietary cartridges.  The conventional cartridges were available on special order only.

Mike,
Congrats on your great find.
Single shot Bullards in any condition are not common, and yours definitely is in nice condition in spite of the gunsmith slip ups.
I own a takedown and a solid frame, and they both use different extractors.
I will check my solid frame and see how the extractor compares.

Could we get a pic of the chamber w/o the case in it?

It looks like that you could have a piece of steel silver soldered to the side of the extractor but, it also looks like the barrel cut may have to be wider and taller (and the silver soldered piece to match it)  to keep it from slipping past the rim.

Thanks for the suggestion Frank. Looks like it might be possible. Here are a few more photos so you can get a better idea of what I have to work with.

I did a chamber cast, and it is definitely a 25.20 SS. The 28" barrel has a a 1 in 15" twist.
