Thinking about reloading (smokeless powder) today but humidity is 94.5 percent. Huh

That's a good question.

It would seem that if your loading fixed ammo that won't be shot for a while, that it could be a issue. But, if your going to shoot it in the next couple of days, I, myself, wouldn't worry about it.

There is relative humidity, that is what most weather forecasts contain. There us also absolute humidity readings.

The relative humidity readings are mis leading. A 94% rel humidity reading is lower at lower temps. The air molecules are closer together so there is less moisture able to be held in the air.

Best to go by the dew point.  Higher the dew point the more moisture held in the air.

I doubt very highly loading ammo in a higher RH will make one bit of difference.

much more likely to impact shooting conditions than ammo loading--high humidity that is--with smokeless.

BP is a different story

and real low humidity can set up static electricity conditions which might affect reloading

Being bored, wanted to do fixed ammo (.32-40), which could be fired anywhere from one week to one month away at the range (just to enjoy shooting, not competition).  Temperature is 58F, Dew Point is 57.9F.  It's raining now.

Living in the Pacific Northwest we have higher humidity/dew points.  Loading smokeless or B/P, never worry about it.

for reasons besides reloading, i monitor my shop for humidity with a digital gauge and maintain a range of 45-50% daily.  best balance is achieved with a dehumidifier and humidifier.

Hello Cajun Man--

Now that you've thought about it, i.e., "reloading today, BUT humidity is ________________" you can forget about it.

It's a normal weather condition that exists everywhere in varying degrees and conditions.  "Everyone talks about the weather and no one can do anything about it."

Your time would be much better spent on improving your shooting skills at the firing line overall with regards to honing the components which you actually have control over.

The weather is 1.525 % of the total picture.  If you were to be a second generation Harry M.Pope, then, and only then, would you need to take humility consideration into your reloading scheme.

Shooting is not brain surgery, so why try to make it more difficult than it actually is in reality?

I'd be more concerned about what the humidity is in your loading area, than outside. Unless your shop is open to the outdoors, I'd guess there's quite a difference between outside and inside.

I vaguely recall Bill Knight, aka the Mad Monk, saying BP draws about as much moisture as it is going to when you open the can.  What ever is going to happen happened then.   Cheers, Bob
