AA 4100 Availability

Print Post
I talked with Western Powders this morning about the shortage of AA 4100 & Enforcer and received some encouraging news.

The manufacturing facility in Belgium that produces these powders (and others) has been down for quite some time but is now up and running once again. Western Powder is expecting a container load of powder from them sometime in the "late fall".

Of course it has to pass customs, be tested, etc., etc. before it gets released and they don't know for sure how much of each type will be in the container. However I was told that there was light at the end of the tunnel.

Keep a lookout at all of your favorite distributors and hopefully we'll all be able to purchase some of this elusive powder before long. Western Powders won't know anything more until you see it available so there's no use bothering them any further.

Good news as far as I'm concerned.

What are looking for from Hogdon? I have seen allot come and go in recent months and there is still a little variety out there.

Clays and International. Although I am going to switch pistols and shotguns to all Alliant powders if possible.

Am good on my single shot powders 4227 and 4759.

Way we have been treated all the powder companies go belly up ok with me. Somebody else would come in and not take advantage of us. Probably some foreign company.

4227 is on all the shelves here one shop I go to has some 4759. I got lucky and srored 3 pounds of Ramshot Enforcer at a gunshow over the weekend. I going to try it today, It should give me some breathing room untill 4100 comes back.

Powder Valley has 8lb jugs of 4759 in stock for 143.50. 8lb. jugs of 4227 was plentiful at various suppliers for several weeks now and most are now down to 1lb cannisters. 300MP like 4100 has pretty much been non existant.

For those of you who haven’t tried it, I took a chance and bought 3 pounds if Ramshot Enforcer at a gun show last weekend. I had heard that it was a good substitute for 4100 and the burn rates are similar so when I saw it I grabbed all three. I finally got a chance to try it at the range.
I started with my usual drop of 4100 shot a couple of shots to foul the barrel and settle the powder and then turned on the chronograph. Got an average for ten shots of 1453 with an extreme spread of 10 FPS. I then switched powder bottles and put in the Enforcer. Again I shot 3 shots to let the powder settle and started my 10-shot string and average velocity of 1453 with an extreme spread of 10 FPS.
The two 10 shot groups didn’t look too bad given that all I was really paying attention to was the chronograph. Now its time to go back to the range, set out flags, and play for real.

This is the answer I recieved when asking what the difference was between AA4100 and Enforcer.

John,
They are the same powder.
