There are indeed two Americas. Simply put, it is not the haves and have nots. The two Americans are in reality divided into those who do and those who don't.

Any chance of a photo or hand sketch of your Ballard breech-seater? I am always in need of ideas.

Here ya go. This works while shooting iron sights without taking the the sight off to load and works with the scope on.  It is a bit crude  Cheesy  Most parts out of the electrical truck instead of the machine shop.  I made it to get started and it works so well, I never got around to making a presentable one.  The only thing that isn't real clear in the pictures is the handle is bent about 5 degrees to clear the scope.

It is a plugged case as the .33  bullet will not fit into a 32-40 case.  Just the way Harry did things.  I think he planned on this rifle being muzzle loaded  Grin

Here is the style I and currently using for my Ballard.

It hooks into the breach mortice just behind the hammer which fits in the slot in the 'claw'

It is designed to work with a plugged case.

Good design, Jack. Lots of leverage.

I picked that one up on eBay.  I had to machine a new pivot piece though.  The shoulders were not deep enough to allow it to pivot when the retaining screws were tightened all the way down.  Probably why it was sold as it was wobbly with those loose screws.  As it it, I need to reach under the action with my left hand to hold the claw in the slot or it can slip out.  I can really seat oversize bullets with all that leverage!

Schuetzenmiester,-- Your breech-seater looks good compared to the one I am using and yours probably works better.

RSW,--Beautiful art work and excellent ideas, as usual. Had not seen the two piece idea before.

BPJack,--Interesting link system on that breech-seater. Concept should work well.

Thanks to all of you for the ideas. Hopefully, I can come up with something better than what I am using now.

Is that toggle seater a Clerke or did you make it up your self?

John, I do not know who made the seater but is very nicely done. There are no markings on it at all.
