Anyone know of a current source for brass? The usual sources are out of stock. Stumbled on a set of dies at a local gun show today. Now looking for brass and a Stevens in .38-40.

How about 44-40?  Should work.

How? Size it down from .44 to .38? Will that work.

A classic, but understand the feeling. Found a set of dies, now look for brass, next, find a rifle to shoot it. We are not crazy. Some people just think so. Did Stevens ever make a 38-40 in anything? At best, a rare bird. Best of luck on the search.

There are two 38-40s. 38-40 Winchester / Marlin can be easily made by sizing down 44-40 brass.
For 38-40 Remington Hepburn you just have to shorten 303 British.
38-40 Win is not actually a 38: the bullet dia should be .401".
38-40 RH is actually a true 38.

I would assume .38-40 Winchester.  Midway list it but is out of stock. Stevens catalog lists .38-40 for the 44 action and I think for the 44 1/2. Yes we are probably a little crazy but I always look for the odd stuff. Usually buy the gun first and then end up buying new dies at a premium. Bought the dies for $20 and just could not pass them up.
