I use 8.5 gr 0f 4227 with an 85 gr cast bullet in fixed cartridges for a Maynard.  I use it on groundhogs and prairie dogs.  I notice Barnes Cartridges of the World recommends 8 gr 2400 for 65 gr cast bullets.

Years ago I used 11.5 grains of 5744 with a jacketed 86 grain bullet, emulating Allyn Tedmon.

CAUTION:  This is a high pressure load.  I was using it in a 44 1/2 Stevens action.  Not safe for anything less.

BTW I gave up that load because all jacketed bullets on the market today are too thick-skinned for the 2000 fps velocity.  They killed quite a few groundhogs, but they would also ricochet something awful.
