Great shooting Jerry.

The quarterbore can be a difficult caliber to shoot 200 yards.

What .25 case are you using and what is your powder load, bullet length and barrel twist?

Interesting minds would like to know.

We need to have a shoot off with you and Dave Purcell who holds the ISSA quarterbore record.

Dave what is Dave's record, I did not know he held one in ISSA, but I do know his 25 Hornet shoots extremely well at our yearly regionals.

Schuetzendave,

My barrel is a Douglas XX, 10 twist, chambered in 25-20 WCF. I use a 120 gr. David Mos bullet that is .993 long. My load is 9.6 gr. of AA4100 with a Federal 205M primer. It's a little on the hot side. I had a case separate on my second target and had to quickly fireform a new case and adjust my scope for a new POI.

I've shot against Dave Purcell at the ISSA Regional at Modesto. He's definitely hard to get past no matter what he's shooting. He's a real gentleman and a pleasure to be around.

Congrat to Jerry. I was at the match shooting against Jerry and the conditions were terrible. I fact Jerry stated before the match started that he was having a hard time seeing the bull because of the mirage. It really shows! Rich

Yup we enjoy shooting with Dave Purcell.
His 2001 25 Cal. Bench Rest ISSA Record is 1231/1250.

My 25 RKS with 122 Paul Jones and 1:10 twist is more accurate with heavier powder loads but unfortunately it dimples and craters the cases.
I had to reduce back to 1500 FPS or replace my cases after each firing.  Not so accurate.

Jerry I assume you are breech seating as well.

We would like to try 4100 but cannot get it up here in Canada.

Yes, breech seating completely through the driving band.

We tried a number of powders but none came close to AA4100. My MV is 1660 fps and that's where it seems to shoot best. Just need to keep an eye on the cases.

If loosing a case after ~200 shots is the price I have to pay I'll do so gladly. Sometimes they go as far as 400 -500 shots.

It is interesting to compare the powder specifications on the Accurate Arms website. The specifications for AA #9 are identical to the AA 4100. Only difference is AA #9 is manufactured in  the U.S.A. and AA 4100 is manufactured in Belgium.

(You need to Login or Register to view media files and links)

Are they the same powder? Does the Belgium manufacturer provide a higher quality powder? If they are different powders, how are they different?

And how are they different from H108 or WC820 powders?

Dave AA4100 provides the same velocity as AA9 with alott less pressure. It use to be noted as such on Accurate Web site and that is why it seems to shine in small capacity cases. It used to be Scott 4100 before they were bought out. My experiance has been it shows less pressure than WC 820 and H-108. I hope this helps?

Dave,
This powder thing is very confusing.

1. I bought some Ramshot Enforcer and in the loading data, there is NO difference between it and 4100, you can look that up, they are exactly the same, not simular. That should mean it's the same powder, right?

2. When I went down to Mosesto, last year, Jerry_H and I compared my Enforcer and his 4100. The ball size on mine was visually smaller (not by much). That says they're different, right?

3. Enforcer and #9, diffenently have different burning rates by, about 1.5 gr in my 33 Max case. Plus, I haven't been able to get the same accuracy out of Enforcer, at least, not so far and if I do, it will be at a bigger spred and higher velocity than #9

4. I use a Redding meaure with the pistol chamber and if Enforcer and 4100 are the same, the volume is different between it and #9. These are the mic readings for the two:

#9
8.0 gr = .412
10.0 gr = .521
15.0 gr = .784

Enforcer
8.0 gr = .425
10.0 gr = .535
15.0 gr = .810

Not a large spred but, enough that I can't use the same settings.

Frank

PS
Dave, I know Tom had some Enforcer, maybe you can borrow a little from him.

I would doubt that the Enforcer would be the same due to legal protection of manufacturing rights. One
would think the chemical make up of a specific product would have some type of patent protection?

While I don't know the history behind the Ramshot powders, Western Powders owns both Ramshot and Accurate Arms powder companys. Like Hodgdon owns the rights to IMR, Winchester and it's own line of powders and like Hodgdon, Western Powder can change the names of the powders that they import, such as what they did to IMR 4227 (dropped IMR 4227 and replaced it with H4227 but still labeled it IMR 4227). If you own the rights to something, you can do anything you want.

You can't have EXACTLY (to the pressure poundage and fps with the same charge weight) the same pressure and velocity with 2 different powders if they are not the same. They are listed just as Hodgdon lists the data for H110/Win 296.

That said, there was a visual size difference between Jerry's 4100 and my Enforcer, that I don't understand.

One might have to assume if one sees a visual differance that all things would then not be equal. WW296 and 110 were not the same as several have assumed over the years but they very well could be now?
I will pose the question to AA to see what kind of responce I get?

Frank goods news for all, see below. That is if it is still the same as the old 4100? Either way one wouldn't have a choice at this point in time anyway. They ruined AA9 when they changed
manufacturing locations, it used to be my favorite!

John,
They are the same powder.
