Primers in the vise:
I remember that we used to put a roll of cap-gun caps in a vise and get multiple explosions.   So I figured that a vise would pop a primer.   Just this minute tried it.  Crushed a LR primer completely flat and no ignition.

Someone had an accident with fed. primers and a Lee press, Federal blamed Lee and Lee blamed Fed......so Lee went off and said not to use Fed. primers in that press, Fed. is not happy, but this is how businesses operate. Don't think that they are there for your best interests.

it's just a cya ruling from lee, because there was a reported federal primer chain reaction that occurred in using his xr hand primer.  as with others, i've primed, and contine to prime, many Many MANY thousands of federal primers with the xr primer and no incidents.  it's the only priming tool i use for rifle cartridges.  ymmv.
