The catridge is very, very close to the 40/65 Ballard.

In the UK, you can own guns without a licence if they were made before 1939 and their caliber is on a list of obsolete rounds published by the Home Office:

This is a pretty good guide to what ammo has not been made for a long time,

My first thought when I saw this thread was Frank Wesson Cartridges !!!I shoot a 42 Wesson cartridge(kinda).

You might try the Cartridges for Collectors books. I think there are three V olumes. I have the first two.
