I have what i believe is an original one on the way(unk caliber). The bottom of the handes are not seen but they are not like a Pool or Meecham with scrapers, they are just rounded. I don’t intend to keep it as I have no Pope rifles and the Meacham’s I have work for me. A friend has shown some interest. Here is the grainy picture of it.I will post a better picture when it arrives. Rough value? I will offer it up here should my buddy decide he doesn’t want it.

Pope or Stevens Pope In the Day auction two went in the 250-300 range which I thought a bit cheap.
The plating on yours is worse than those were.

Over the years there have been a good many copies of Harry Pope's  De-Re Capper made by various gunsmiths and tool makers, are you certain that it is a genuine Pope made item? Just asking as it would make a deal of difference in the price. Undecided

I'm not certain as to whom you are referring Tom_Trevor, but if it is me, then yes I am an old man at 71years of age. I don't have either books on Pope as over here in the UK they cost 50% more than they do in the USA. A pension here doesn't permit the purchase of such items without several months of saving and I currently have other financial priorities. My question as to the origin of the item pictured was directed at LINOWW.

like I said not sure. The picture is just the one I had in the group of items I bought. It was not clean to Be a pope but then again the majority of the stuff had no description. I should have it in my hands Monday at that time I'll take some better pictures maybe you guys can help me out.

If its a Pope I believe the caliber should be marked on the decapping rod.if it's not would that make it not original though?
it wil all be clear monday i hope when it arrives.

Linoww, If it looks like one of these you are good to go. I have seen some with no calibre marking.
Post a picture when it gets here.

I have one that's a very decent copy, and the seller was up front about it being a copy. Whoever built it did a nice job, just too new looking to have the old patina of a real Pope. It also has an updated decapper from the Pope design. I gave a whopping $20 for it, and use it often.

After much begging and pleading I talked a coworker into selling me his Pool capper-decapper. It cost me $100 and two antique telephones. About two weeks later I was walking through the big Pomona gun show when I saw one on a table. I asked the man, how much and he said, it's not mine but I think he wants $15 for it. Of course I threw my elbow out of joint in a speedy effort to get my wallet out. Charles Pool's nephew was kind enough to make me some extra shell holders.

Just had it out for my OAC meeting schuetzen display this month, so I'll grab it and take a picture.

Here's mine. I can feel the shape of the handles under the rubber covers, and contemplated removing them to give it a older period look. But they are comfortable, so not sure I'll remove them.

I like the handle covers.the Meacham with the flashhole scraper at the end really tears my hand up.I taped them up but it looks silly.

lots of makers basically copied the one Pope made with minor variations. Including Jerry's.  Not that many new De-Re designs out there.  after all there is not a huge market and the old designs worked fine

LINOWW,

Instead of tape to cover the scraper(s) go to the hardware store and get some bolt thread protectors.  They come in many diameters, are about 1/2" to 3/4" long and just slip on.  The yellow ones worked for my .32 and the green for the .25.  I don't know if the colors are industry standards or not but they seem to be the same at the different big box stores around here.

If you need to use the pocket scraper just slip a cover off and then right back on when you're done.

They work great on my Simmons(s).

Mike

Marliguy, Look on the front of the ears that the arm pivot screws are in and you will find in tiny letters a serial mumber. My first one in 1965 was 81 in the 90s I bought 1366. Let us know.

A short piece of fuel line the correct size for a slip fit would work well as a handle cushion also, and could be slipped off(or up)  if primer pocket cleaner is needed.

Never noticed the serial number before! Mine is actually on the top left side of the rear ear. It's #301 in .32-40 caliber.

Late 1960s or early 1970s. At one time we figured he made about 1400 of them.
