I have what i believe is an original one on the way(unk caliber). The bottom of the handes are not seen but they are not like a Pool or Meecham with scrapers, they are just rounded. I don’t intend to keep it as I have no Pope rifles and the Meacham’s I have work for me. A friend has shown some interest. Here is the grainy picture of it.I will post a better picture when it arrives. Rough value? I will offer it up here should my buddy decide he doesn’t want it.

Pope or Stevens Pope In the Day auction two went in the 250-300 range which I thought a bit cheap.
The plating on yours is worse than those were.

Over the years there have been a good many copies of Harry Pope's  De-Re Capper made by various gunsmiths and tool makers, are you certain that it is a genuine Pope made item? Just asking as it would make a deal of difference in the price. Undecided

I'm not certain as to whom you are referring Tom_Trevor, but if it is me, then yes I am an old man at 71years of age. I don't have either books on Pope as over here in the UK they cost 50% more than they do in the USA. A pension here doesn't permit the purchase of such items without several months of saving and I currently have other financial priorities. My question as to the origin of the item pictured was directed at LINOWW.

like I said not sure. The picture is just the one I had in the group of items I bought. It was not clean to Be a pope but then again the majority of the stuff had no description. I should have it in my hands Monday at that time I'll take some better pictures maybe you guys can help me out.

When you receive it - measure the ID of the rim ... then you'll know the caliber

If its a Pope I believe the caliber should be marked on the decapping rod.if it's not would that make it not original though?
it wil all be clear monday i hope when it arrives.

Linoww, If it looks like one of these you are good to go. I have seen some with no calibre marking.
Post a picture when it gets here.

I have one that's a very decent copy, and the seller was up front about it being a copy. Whoever built it did a nice job, just too new looking to have the old patina of a real Pope. It also has an updated decapper from the Pope design. I gave a whopping $20 for it, and use it often.

After much begging and pleading I talked a coworker into selling me his Pool capper-decapper. It cost me $100 and two antique telephones. About two weeks later I was walking through the big Pomona gun show when I saw one on a table. I asked the man, how much and he said, it's not mine but I think he wants $15 for it. Of course I threw my elbow out of joint in a speedy effort to get my wallet out. Charles Pool's nephew was kind enough to make me some extra shell holders.
