357 or 357Max for 32 MS?

I see that many people use the 357 Max case shortened to form the 32 Miller Short. I have to ask why not the 357 mag case as the finished 32 MS case ends up shorter than the 357 mag case anyway?

Usually the reason given is that the cut down Max brass is a little thicker. The other reason is that both cases need to be annealed to form. It is extremely easy to get the annealing down into the web with the shorter case. When this happens the cases will stretch with shooting and eventually separate at the web leaving the remainder stuck in the chamber. A better choice is RWS 5.6 X 50R magnum brass. The brass is far better and doesn’t require annealing to form.

I made my .32 using a 38 SPL case, NOT necked down.  I figure that if I am breech-seating anyway, what does it need with a neck?    It also makes for a sturdier bullet seater.  The rather flimsy cases seem to stand the racket OK.

The .32 RKS shortens the .357 Maximum case to 1.470 which is longer than the .32 Miller.

The larger case is less sensitive to load than the shorter .32 Miller cases that  also use the .357 Maximum cases.

The .357 Maximum case is heavier and we believe it lasts longer; however the case primer pocket wears first, so I am not sure a thicker case wall is that important.

I've shot over a thousand of rounds in the 32 MS and I just went to Case #2 because I could press primers in by my fingers in case #1. I use max cases. Even if my case life was cut by half using mag cases big deal!

I just received new R-P Maximum brass and it was the same wall thickness and head thickness as Starline Magnum brass.  I have been using the Starline brass for several seasons and it has held up just fine.  I see no advantage to using Maximum brass for the 32 Miller Short.

Totally agree, I doubt many manufacturer's make Max any different from mag. Why would you make two versions when you can just trim to the length you want. I have used all three Max, Mag and the RWS and all have worked equally well.
