Bushing down primer pockets

Has anyone had any experience bushing down primer pockets from LR to SR?
I'm not trying to re invent the wheel here it's simply a matter of need. There are no LR primers available at this point or for the near future.
I followed a couple of threads here but they dead ended.
I have a full suite of machine shop capabilities.
Please don't suggest I buy brass from vendor X as brass cannot be exported out of the US.

I'm sorry to hear of the primer situation, however, I popped into the local Sportsman's Warehouse yesterday and they had plenty. I bought a brick of CCI 200 LRP. But to answer your question. Yes you can bush the primer pocket to accept the small primer. In fact, several years you could buy the sleeves. I actually have a few left. I wish you luck.

Yes I have done it before. I still have about 200 of the primer pocket sleeves. The only problem that I see is that while the sleeve addresses the problem of shrinking the diameter of the primer pocket it doesn’t address the difference in thickness. If you bottom out the small primer you may get erratic ignition from light primer strike.

Yes unfortunately anything in the US does me no good. Ammunition and all of its components are highly restricted for export out of the US. The result is there are essentially two importers in canada which supply all the retail sellers. Once those two importers are out of stock every retailer will be in the same boat.

I have a business building big bore air rifles. A customer sent me three barrels to be chambered with slugs in them seated by his bolt. US customs held the barrels and removed the slugs then sent them on to me. Air rifle components are not regulated but the slugs were considered to be ammunition components.

Sad but true

Sean,

Although it is a pain in the butt, you can get brass imported here ( I assume that you are in Canada like me ).  The fees make it so that it's not worth it unless it's something particularly difficult to find here.  There is an outfit in Alberta called Prophet River that will bring in brass.

Back during WWII, some folks used small primers by popping out the anvils from fired LR primers, putting the small primer inside and seating in the case.  The seating operation flattened the indent.   I have not tried this, however.  Might work for you.
