25-20 Wichester repeater loads with 4198 and 2015

    Hi All:

Anybody have loads for the 25-20 Win. repeater using an 80 grain lead bullet? Any of these powders used to load jacketed bullets?

I tried to measure small charges of Unique but my powder measure would not work well with this powder!  I do have a large amount of 4198,3031, 2015 and H322 and I would like to use these powders in the 25-20.

These powders may give me a good loading density and perhaps good accuracy in the 25-25.

I have 500 80 grain cast bullets for this cartridge and of course I could purchase jacketed bullets.

Thus far, I have been only loading 2400 behind the 80 grain lead bullet. I have not shot any of these loads but I think tha tif I could acheive a higher loading density and perhaps accuracy would be better.

Any thoughts about the above powders in the 25-20 repeater?

                                                    Tia,

Zeke,

You might find some useful info in this link.  As usual, caution is advised with Internet info on reloading.

I have many loads that use small charges of Unique. I use an RCBS Little Dandy measure and have been able to fulfill my needs with the first 17 rotors. My Uniflow did not work well with small charges of Unique. The smallest charge of Unique I ever used was 2.0 grains using the smallest Lee dipper. Good Luck!

I'm having good luck with 10.0 grains of 2015 behind an 85 grain bullet.

The current Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook doesn't cover 80 grain cast bullets but does cover 85 grain.

It suggests 4.1 to 4.5G for Unique, 8.3 to 9.2 for 4198 and 6.3 to 7.0 for 2400.

I have been using 7.5 grains of 4227 with an 85 grain cast bullet in my 1892 with good success. The Lyman recommended range is 7.4 to 8.2 grains of 4227. I use small pistol primers FWIW.

Hope I dont step on any toes,  but I have used 4.5 gr UniQ for years in a 25-20 cfw,  same for my 32-20..  keeps it simple..for pb bullets..  for jackets I use 4227,  but the cost of jackets only for vermin, etc... most of my loads come fron several old Lyman books #44 back to #39...   always refer to these old books since bout 1955..
