was wondering if anyone here shoots a 25 krag , I recently purchased a high wall chambered for a version 2.160 long with a 28 degree shoulder. I have sent a fired case and a chamber cast to Dave at ch4d to get a set of dies made and am looking very forward to loading for it.

I do. CPA with a 25 Krag barrel. My dies came from CH 4D too.  Been interesting, took me a while to get things right.  I did not get custom dies, form cases from several dies they had in stock.

7mm08 to 260 Remington to 25/08 then the 25 Krag F/L die.   Had to turn necks too. Once the Brass is formed rest is easy.  Loading data from 25/35 first then moved up carefully. I had pressure signs sooner than I thought due tight necks turned some more and things settled down

Thanks for the reply boats, I used a 7x57 to 260 to 25 neck die to fireform a couple of cases with 33 grs 4064 and a 100 sierra, was very mild and have .004 release.I am really looking forward to getting proper dies and doing some load development over a chronograph. Glad you got your neck tension issues safely solved.

Trouble is there is no standard 25  Krag chamber, right dies are a gamble. No matter once the brass fits all they need is neck sizing.

Like to tell you velocity but have not cronographed it. From sight settings I think 117 grs 2700 FPS. 87 a bit faster. It shoots flater than my buddy's 25/35 CPA

I have a cronograph just never checked it.

I intend to keep my loads fairly mild , a 117 at 2700 fps should be just about perfect.

I have one on a Borchardt with a 10 twist Shilen barrel. It must be a fairly standard chamber (if there is one) as my stock RCBS dies are just marked 25 Krag and the fired cases look like the sized cases. Somewhere back in time I found a case drawing that matches my cases. It shows an OAL of 2.262, a length to shoulder of 1.695 at a diameter of .425, a length to base of neck of 1.866 and a neck diameter of .288. I'm guessing (with some help from a goniometer) the shoulder angle is more like 21 degrees. (I did have some cases marked 25 short Krag that sound more like yours.) I haven't worked with it for many years as I decided to reshape the stock and that has been a work long in progress. The velocities I show were derived from an old B-square Chrono that used wired clips to printed circuits on plastic cards held at like an 8 foot spacing on a piece on conduit. The timing reading was in a row of binary lights and had to be added up and converted to fps. That said, what I was seeing was:
With 100 grain Sierras - 42 grains of H450 at 2596 fps or 41 grains of IMR 4350 at 2732 fps.
With 100 grain Nosler solid base - 41 grains of IMR 4350 at 2832 fps or 41 grains of H414 at 2984 fps.
I really need to work on that stock and retest everything with a modern Chrony. It occurs to me that back in the 60s or 70s there was an article in a Gun Digest on the 25 Ackley Krag which had a steeper shoulder. Have you seen that? I have it somewhere.

I have 44 1/2 Ideal rifle originally 25-35 and rechambered to 25 Krag AI by Neidner. It has a a 40* shoulder and short neck. I am forming cases using RCBS dies and loading using dies from RCBS. Super cartridge! Moodyholler

I found the article. It was in the 1963 Gun Digest (the one with the yellow cover with the tarted up Sako lever action.) The guy had a 25 Ackley Improved Krag in a High Wall with a 14 twist Douglas barrel (which limited him to 87 grain bullets.) This Ackley Improved Krag is on a full length 30-40 case with a 40 degree shoulder. From information in the article mine must be the original 25 Neidner Krag.

Thanks for your replies. My version is 1.770 base to shoulder 1.905 base to neck .423 at shoulder and 2.165 long, my barrel is marked 25 krag and Rock. I am really amazed at how many variations of this cartridge there seem to be.

Few references to 25 Krag for you

Wolfe publishing did a series of reprint's articles that appeared in Handloader.  "Wildcat Cartridges" has several references to the 25 Krag.

Mann's "The Bullets Flight" has data on the first 25 Krag.  Mann was working with the 25/35 and wanted more velocity. Necked the .30 US cartridge down for the first "25 Krag" Set it up in a Stevens 44 1/2
