I haven't tried mold prep but have used white lithium grease with Teflon, Cyclo brand, which seemed to work well.  I put the patched bullets on an old cookie sheet, sprayed them with grease and rolled them around some, let them dry awhile and loaded them.

I have used Johnson's paste wax with good success.  Wipe in on with your fingers, let dry.
This works well if you wipe ( I use antifreeze/water) and leave the bore damp.  The wax keeps the paper from softening.

Rooster Red Jacket Lube is what I use. It was made for lubing PP bullets. It dry lubes the paper and is waterproof.  Unfortunately it is no longer produced and there is none on the retail market.

Hank - again ... let me ask - why are you interested using mold prep?

I don't use lube on th paper as excellent accuracy can be had without it.  Several years ago Kenny Wasserberger experimented with graphite as a patch lubricant but gave up on it.  You might want to ask him about his results.  I imagine that the mold prep you are talking about is graphite in a solvent?

Rooster Red Jacket is available from Buffalo Arms.  Their web site shows it as "ample stock".

Thanks Letterman that it is still available.  For those that haven't tried the Rooster lube - might recommend trying some

I haven't loaded paper patch bullets in quite some time.  When I did load them, I simply wiped some pure Neetsfoot Oil on the patch and let it dry.  I used them with black powder and wiped between shots.  It worked well.

With regards to Mould Prep, it contains graphite.  About two years ago I experimented with coating my bullets with graphite.  To make a long story short, it didn't work well because the graphite made the lead too slick and the bullets ran away from the pressure going down the barrel.  It gave me very inconsistent velocities and poor accuracy.  Just food for thought.

Hank - read feather's post - I agree
For PP, you want a lube that wets the paper  - is waterproof and dries tightening the wrap

Ok, Neetsfoot.

Now to control BP fouling for hunting, what for a grease cookie?

For a grease cookie I would recommend 40% paraffin, 40 %mutton tallow (available from Dixie gun Works), and 20% beeswax. I put  dollop of anhydrous lanolin in the mix also.

An easy way to make the cookies is to put a piece of waxed paper on a sheet of plate glass put two strips of wood of the thickness you want the wad to, place a piece of the lube between the sticks. Cover with another piece of waxed paper and roll out with a rolling pin.

Has anyone tried the spray on moly lube? I use it for my pellet guns and would think that it would work fine for a paper patch, it dries and won't rub off, unless it would create the bullet running away from the pressure curve like the graphite lube.   Dave.
