case length/lube ring

Hi,  I'm currently working on determining the correct case length for my Pedersoli Sharps 45-70. I originally incorrectly measured 2.130 using a cut down & flared 45-90 case.  I ended up with lube on the end of the casing after firing this round.  I then did an lead-impact casting of the chamber. Best I could tell the chamber is 2.140. I cut unfired Starline 45-90 brass to 2.143, neck sized, then expanded the case which gave me the 2.140 I was looking for. Bullet was Saeco 1881 .460, 60 grains 1.5 swiss. Case was not crimped, only the flare was removed. Case mouth was positioned just under top driving band. Slight resistance was felt for the last 1/16" (approx) when chambering the round. Thinking I had hit the beginning of the transition, I was surprised to see lube at the end of the case again, less than with 2.129 but still there. Is the lube ring a sure sign that my cases are still too short or is something else causing this. Leading was reduced for the 2.140 round compared to the 2.130 case. What should the next step be? Should I increase case length a couple of thousandths of an inch each time until the lube ring disappears?

Thanks,
-Ed

Hows it shoot, In my opinion, a little lube ring at the mouth of the fired case isn't a problem.

Factory Reamer Dimensions
Base to neck chamber length on '74 Pedersoli 45-70 Sharps = 2.1290"
Throat = 0.5253 consisting of freebore = 0.3333 and leade = 0.1920
I reload COL so the bullet nose just touches the leading bore cut and have used cases down to 2.095.  When they reach this length, I stretch them back to SAMMI length

And as Terry said - not an issue

Thanks for the replies. Shoots pretty good. The real issue has been with leading. Different bullets have all leaded the bore to one degree or another. Different diameter bullets have been used. Groove is 457.5", bore is .450. Used .458, .459, .460. Leading has been reduced by lengthening the cases. At 2.140" it was down to just a speck on one cleaning patch.  Lube rings got smaller and leading decreased as the case got longer. That's what makes me wonder if the chamber is really cut as deep as 2.140 or deeper. The impact casting I made shows it at least that deep. Wondering if anyone else has measured a pedersoli chamber over 2.129? Seems that my +0.011 is a bit much. May re-do the impact casting. Lube have been SPG. If lube is the real culprit which way should I go, softer or stiffer mixture? The leading has been in the rifling, not throat. Shows up as thin lines on the rifling indentation marks on the patch. Sorry to be so long-winded. Trying to give as many clues as possible.
