Regarding the amount of FG, black powder, if your shooting fixed, you fill the case to the bottom of the bullet at the overall length that it will chamber and touch the rifling, for a starting point.

For breech seating, you load the case full, to the top and hold it in with a wad. There are many kinds of wads but, if you don't have any, you can just use a smear of bullet lube to hold the powder in the case so it doesn't spill when chambering.

A note about the BP, I've only used GOEX powder, there are a number of other powders out there and the granulation may need to be different for best results when using them. Others can speak, regarding that.

It may well be a cast action, but most likely doesn't have the reversible firing pin system as DST breechblocks didn't come with the feature. It may also be a mismatched breechblock if it's a built up gun anyway.
I'd be concerned about what loads were worked up for a cast receiver, and probably stick to straight BP, and not duplex or smokeless.

Digitall 423 and John Boy....Thanks...I am going to the Dixie gun website later tonight and see what they offer...The way it sounds I am going to learn some good lessons in lube science...I am really looking forward to getting all the components needed to shoot this rifle...I am not sure how the wife is gonna like getting a lead pot and bulllet molds for her anniversary present, but hey...it has to be better than a toaster...Marlinman   Thanks again...I answered a coupla your inquiries on the other forum...It is a three line roll stamp....
