Do you have to compress the black powder load for the .22Hornet?  Thanks for your answer.  Hank45 Smiley

I do not shoot a hornet, but I do shoot mostly BP.  I my 40-50 SBN [a larger version of your hornet] I use Swiss BP that does not need much compression.  If you were to compress BP in any BN case, you must keep the compression level in the straight section of the neck. Hope this helps.

Let us know how the BP works in the Hornet.

Keep on hav'n fun!

I just hafta ask...Why are you using black in the Hornet?  are you trying to duplicate the old Winchester .22-13-45 WCF?  In my Ballard No.3 in .25-25 Stevens, I am using Swiss 3FG.  The only compression I use is a 36" 1/4" brass drop tube.

Sounds like a fun project!  What bullet are you planning to use?  Most modern .22 designs have grooves for smokeless in mind.  I had Fred Leeth of Pioneer Products make up a couple of nose pour copies of the old Ideal 22636 in 52gr.  Both g.c. & plain-base,  These are multiple groove and probably would hold an adequate amount for black.  Though as I have found with my .25-25 Stevens using  3FG Swiss, for best match accuracy, I need to push 1 barely damp patch thru after each shot.
