Nose pour? Casts at 218 -219gr using 25:1 lead:tin?  I borrowed what sounds like the one to which you refer. I have a bunch of bullets for testing, but the mold is "out of reach" for the time being. Let me know how and/or if I can help.

John Boy -With CPA rifle in .32-20CPA, 28" Shilen #4, 14 twist barrel, I've gotten good testing results using 10.7-12.0gr  AA#9, cork wad .010 - .020" off the powder, breech seated 1/16". Primers were CCI BR4. Best groups seem to be at each of higher and lower charges. Both were tested under nearly identical conditions. I feel further testing will produce better results. I'm trying Fed 205M primers, AA4100 & veggie wads. So many variables ......
Good shooting.

JohnBoy for 200yd. work an average velocity of about 1474fps. seems to work for the majority out my way. 14.2grs. of AA-9, H108, WW296 or 14.4grs. of 300MP will get you there so just start low and work your way up to it. This would be for breach seating and not fixed.

John 300MP tends to like WWMagnum Primers so if have any give them a try or any others you that might have. If by chance you want to start your load development at 100yds. 13.7 to 13.9 grains seems to be the sweet spot for that distance. For your 200yd. starting point I would start at 14.0 and go up from there not knowing what your altitude density is.

The 215 gr. may be just a little long for a 1:15 Douglas. You need something about 1.050 long. That should give you a bullet about 195 to 200 grains. You may be able to push the longer bullet hard enough to stabilize but you will be pushing it hard. With a 1.050” bullet a velocity of about 1450 works well.

John Louis,

So with a lower altitude density ( say 4500 ft at 70 F) what change  is required in the charge compared to you guys on the coast?

I would add that I am very pleased with 300 MP but have not had time to do any load development so I still using 14.2 gr with WWM primers under a 207 gr Hoch bullet.

Dave I don't know exactly but I do not think it would be much as the air would be just a tad thinner. It is one of those things that needs to be sorted out at ones home range. Happy to hear the 300MP and the WWMag. Primers are working out for you.

Today I has a good day at the range trying out my (new to me) Mitchell scope. I know that this blog is an older one but I thought I would share the results as there has been a lot of discussion on the best twist of rifling and best powders as of late. The barrel is a Shilen 1-14" and is stamped .3195. Hope this info is of some help. AND sorry about the Cast Bullet Association target but it was the only one I had with me at the range.
The powder is 4227 and is 14.4 gr.
lube is NRA Alox pan lubed
bullet is breach seated with a 1/8" floral foam wad 1/10" off of the powder
weight of bullet is 217.2 gr  1:20
Fed pistol primer
