For bench use, consider a smaller case than the 32-40.  Good work has been and is being done with them, but it is a bigger case than is ideal for s-----less powder.

All others things being equal, a striker fired action is more accurate than a hammer action.  Has anyone ever noticed that modern bench rest shooters have never used hammer fired rifles, do they not know what they are doing.  Ledball

Been down the smaller case route several times and found them not to be as consistant day in and day out as the 32-40 and at times they can be a royal pain and that's putting it lightly.

Well guy's I am not a rest shooter. But I have noticed during the last few years a lot of folks shooting 250s and very tight groups at 200 Yds. One thing stands out. Barrels. All types of actions. Ballards, Hiwalls,  Stevens, Ruger #1, and modern striker types. But most if not all have been fired thru barrels by the best  makers we now have and fitted up by some superb Gunsmiths. Also the issue of deliberate load development by serious experimenters. And tight discipline as to load consistancy and refusal to shoot if there has been any glitch in the loading at the line. They go in the mud. Just a thought. Regards, FITZ. Smiley
